Try converting them into MP3 and then use MP3 Gain to normalize the volume
to the Gain you want.

I don't know if the Mac has it but, I believe on windows, there is a thing
that is called constant gain which puts the track at a set volume. See if
the Mac version has that option.

That wont work.  Normalisation just takes the loudest peak and brings 
everything up in proportion. It does not do what this person wants to do.

What you need to do is apply a limiter.  If you have that vst effect installed 
use that. It works grate. I limit everythign to minus 5 db, then normalise the 
whole thing.

i think that has done the trick, i have not touched any settings in the 
limiter. there all sliders that say things like thresh, attack time and stuff 
like that.

hey all,
i'm trying to edit some old tape files witch i downloaded and i have come 
across a problem witch even google can not help me with.
some of the tape files have parts that are super loud and i want to drop the 
volume. i don't want to have to go through the file to find each individual 
part. Is there an effect I can use to turn the loud parts down? Could normalise 
achieve this effect?
i didn't have much luck with it last time.

any help would be fantastic.
