Re: How to access setings for dropbox on the mac.

2014-09-06 Thread Annie Skov Nielsen
Hi Gordon.

I figured out that I could do it in the settings for dropbox, so now I will
have to remember to turn dropbox on when restarting. I will look in
preferences, and see if this method is better.

Thank you
Annie.

Hi Anne

You could resolve this by simply removing it from the auto-log-in preferences
in System Preferences>Users & Groups under the “Log-In Items” tab.

I can come to the preferences, but it is not an easy one.

I press the VoiceOver+shift+space and I can find settings and press
vo+command+space and choose click, but the dropdown directly from the extras
menu will not work.

Another thing is that it ought to be possible to turn dropbox off, so it will
not start automatically, and when start it manually when you have started up
the computer, and you will not run into troubles with the external disc.

Best regards Annie.

I haven't used google drive in over a year because of the lack of
accessibility. I heard it's better now. but all I use google drive and drop
box for now is the free storage. To keep things I have copies of, but just in
case. As for bitt torrent sync, like Sarah said, it just works! I have shared
my entire iTunes library with a group of people and we had no hickups. And I
am talking a tarabite and half of music and movies. No upload, no waiting for
downloads, just peer to peer, and what ever space you have on your internal, or
external drive, where ever you choose to put the target folder.

Hi Phil

I user a high-end thunderbolt drive for my DropBox folder. If your drive
becomes disconnected, for any reason, DropBox pops up a window in the
chooser giving you the option to relink or quit.

It's the only way I know to get at that context menu. Of course, first route
the mouse to the dropbox icon, then hold down the option key and click the
mouse on your air/pro, or on an external mouse open the preferences menu
item in the drop down menu and under "account", you can change the default
location of the dropbox folder. I'm not sure if you can successfully use an
external disc, but go ahead and experiment with some dummy files and see
what happens when you pull the plug.
under "account", You can also use selective sync to limit the folders that
dropbox syncs onto your mac, if space is a concern. But, you'll need sighted
assistance to click the various folders that you want to sync and uncheck
those you don't want on your machine.

To access the dropbox settings hit control f8 to get to your extras menu, then
hold down the option key and press the track pad until you hear it click. You
might need to do this twice if the menu disappears.

> Can I have my data on another disc than my macs,

I have my folder on a 2 tb external drive. I just choose that during set up, or
in my case I chose it later when I was running out of space.

> what will happen if this disc accidentally is disconnected?

If the disk is disconnected all that will happen is a dialogue of dropbox
yelling at you. I simply hit quit and I relaunch the app when I have my
external reconnected. Dropbox will then begin to resynch and modify the folder
after I start the app.

2014-08-29 Thread Annie Skov Nielsen
Hi Phil and Gordon.

I have two macs, an iMac with a 1TB drive that I rarely use, and a mac book air
with 256gb flash. I keep the dropbox folders totally synced on the iMac, and
only some of the more critical folders synced on the air. If I want something
ported over to the air, I simply move it into my public folder on the iMac and
then copy it into the desired folder on the air.

This is how I conserve space on my air while still having the advantages of
dropbox.

How to access setings for dropbox on the mac.

2014-08-29 Thread Annie Skov Nielsen
Hi.

I have got the new plan from dropbox with 1 tb space as a pro customer. Can any
one tell me, how I can access the setings on the mac, I have done it before,
but yesterday I could not go into setings from the menu bar.

Can I have my data on a nother disc than my macs, what will happen if this disc
accidentally is disconnected?

Best regards Annie.
