Hi Josh

Some people, myself included, prefer the Skim interface. Skim has long been
more compatible than Preview with a lot of types of PDF documents and quite a
lot of long-time Mac users just prefer to use that application.

Hi James,

Can you provide some details of the problems you are having with Skim? I did a
quick run through of a couple PDFs using Skim 1.4.3 on my MBA running OS 10.8.4
and didn't encounter any major issues.

Cheers,
Bryan

None intended, it appears that "single page view" is not accessible to VO.
However, if you change your view to "Single Page Continuous" VO works fine with
Skim and reading. Thanks to John for this.

Hi Josh,
Yes, the behavior with PDF documents is improved, although it is still
not the same as viewing them on Windows. Nevertheless, you can get all
the text from them now without having to go through contortions. I trust
that Apple will release more substantial changes in 10.9.

Best,
Zack.

Re: Voice over mentioned in a software update?

2013-06-05 Thread Chris Gilland
Just a suggestion. Has anyone tried maybe using the app called Skim to read
p d f files? I hear that it works extremely! well and is way! way! better
than Preview. Plus, it's completely 100% freeware.

I'd google it and try it. You all might like it.

Chris.

Hi Josh,
Yes, the behavior with PDF documents is improved, although it is still not
the same as viewing them on Windows. Nevertheless, you can get all the
text from them now without having to go through contortions. I trust that
Apple will release more substantial changes in 10.9.

Best,
Zack.

Skim seems to be able to handle larger PDFs and is more stable. It also works
well for presentations. I have to read a great deal for the work that I do and
Skim fulfills my requirements better than Preview. However, reading PDFs with
the new improvements is a joy. Hopefully, this is a sign of things to come.
