Re: iMessage

2014-03-07 Thread Sarah k Alawami
Now that FaceTime audio is out I hope you can do it through IMessage. I have
not had time to even update my supplemental materials for mavericks as I need
to focus more time on my graduation projects, how ever that is something I do
want to play with when time permits.

Take care.

 Hi!

I've been using iMessage lately and its a sure improvement on the
standard SMS so I'm wondering if someone can give me more detail on how
the system works, does iMessage actually send text through the standard
SMS services in text chunks or what.

I'm using iMessage on my IOS devices so just how easy is it to use on a
 Mac using OSX?

Sorry misread the question. No you cannot use iMessage to make or receive
audio/video calls; that's the purpose of FaceTime. iMessage however allows you
to send audio/video files as part of the message.

Re: iMessage

2014-03-07 Thread Dane Trethowan
No no, I wasn't talking about Audio/Video calls at all, I was talking about
Audio/Video messages, a feature something similar to what Skype has perhaps
where you can record a message and send it.

The question has been answered in a way, it seems you can paste audio/video
files into a message and send that way.

2014-03-07 Thread Sarah k Alawami
To add to the person's message, you are not jut limited to m4a files. I sent
some ogg files as well as some mp3 files. You just have to have the right thing
to play them on your mac if you get one. I have also sent pictures as well for
my sighted iMessage buddies.

Take care and be blessed.

2014-03-07 Thread Sarah k Alawami
No it's been the case since iMessage came out in 2012 under mountain lion. I
sent audios videos, ogg files, pictures, text files and once a contract pasted
in to see if I could make the app freeze. So far I could not.

Take care.

Re: iMessage

2014-03-06 Thread Zachary Kline
Hi,
iMessage on the Mac is pretty simple to set up. If you open up the Messages app
chances are it’s already configured, or if not you just need to go into the
accounts or System Preferences and add it. I’d be very surprised if it wasn’t
already working though, especially if you’re running the latest version of OS X.
As far as how it works, it doesn’t send anything via SMS, it communicates
directly with Appl’s servers, all encoded so nobody, not even Apple, can read
what’s being sent if they’re not supposed to.
I don’t know as much about the internal workings as I could, but it’s a great
service and I really recommend using it.
Best,
Zack.

Re: iMessage

2014-03-06 Thread Dane Trethowan
Okay thanks, I'm using it now and am amazed, I'm wondering why I hadn't used
this tool before, its the heart of a computer isn't it really, communication.

 Hi,
iMessage on the Mac is pretty simple to set up. If you open up the Messages
app chances are it’s already configured, or if not you just need to go into
the accounts or System Preferences and add it. I’d be very surprised if it
wasn’t already working though, especially if you’re running the latest
 version of OS X.
 Best,
 Zack.

iMessage is quite was to use on the mac. In fact the interface looks a little
bit like adiums in that not eft is your message area where text is and not he
firhg tiright is the text area wherein you type the wrote: message and your

Take care.

Hi Lynne,

This is iOS related and is a new feature which potentially lets you send free

there is also supposed to be no charge. It's pretty slick.
