Re: [MacGroup] Faster than a speeding........
When it says by early next year I don't think they are talking a standard. As it can take more than a year to get a new standard in 802.11 From: macgroup-boun...@erdos.math.louisville.edu [mailto:macgroup-boun...@erdos.math.louisville.edu] On Behalf Of John Robinson Sent: Wednesday, October 15, 2014 10:51 PM To: Topics related to Apple and Macintosh computers Subject: Re: [MacGroup] Faster than a speeding Ed, do you think it will pass? Public places will remain slow, they wouldn't want to pay the cost of higher speed, but private use, enterprise use, I think they would adopt if available. Anyone know what TWC is charging for the 100 meg? I have noticed a few advertisements for the higher speed, but haven't called yet. The technology giant claims to have developed a 60 GHz Wi-Fi technology that will bridge the gap between theoretical and actual Wi-Fi speeds. Samsung says its Wi-Fi technology will open up the door to data transmission speeds of up to 4.6 gigabits per second (Gbps), or 575 megabytes (MB) per second. This would be about five times faster than the current ceiling for Wi-Fi speeds for consumer electronics devices, which stands at around 866 megabits per second (Mbps), or 108 MB per second. Unlike the existing 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz Wi-Fi technologies, Samsung's 802.11ad standard 60 GHz Wi-Fi technology maintains maximum speed by eliminating co-channel interference, regardless of the number of devices using the same network, according to Samsung's announcementhttp://global.samsungtomorrow.com/?p=43234. Samsung says it has solved the speed-killing issues that come with millimeter waves, which travel by line-of-sight and are stymied by walls and other obstacles, by making use of wide-coverage beam-forming antennae and micro beam-forming control technology, among other fancy-sounding things. I used to have IgLou and then went with the ATT UVerse bundle. IgLou was the best EVER! Never a problem, great support people, local. I have no idea if they are still doing it, but if they are, and based on how great they were a couple of years ago, I’d highly recommend them. I have U verse now. My objection to them is their crappy modem and its ability to be used with tech items like TIVO and power Ethernet adapters. I have been able to work around these issues but it took me two months of research to do so. But I am not the average person having used both the Internet and computers since the beginning of time. :) Most people like time warner cable internet from what I can tell. — Sent from Mailbox On Thu, Oct 16, 2014 at 5:57 PM, William Micou derby...@mac.com wrote: I used to have IgLou and then went with the ATT UVerse bundle.
