Hi Mojca,

I think, by now, we should have a Wiki or a Trac page for the event
details. It'll be just easy to redirect people to this page for details.
Till now, we only have communication over the emails. Something like
https://trac.macports.org/wiki/Meetings/MacPortsMeeting2016.

Let me know if you need help create/manage the page.

Thanks

Hi,

The meeting will take place from 10th to the 14th March. I managed to
negotiate a much lower price for the same location as in 2016 (close
to Kranjska gora), but we can still discuss some alternatives. The
important part is to mark the dates on your calendar now. The price
should be around 250 EUR, but more information to follow.

2018-01-07 Thread Mojca Miklavec
Hi,

It's time to set the final date for the MacPorts meeting 2018. Given
the initial poll results + some individual emails we are now
constrained to any time between Saturday the 10th and Tuesday the 20th
of March 2018. Those who want to come, please reply ASAP in case one
option does not suit you (a confirmation that both are fine is also
helpful) or suits you less. I would like to announce the final date
within a day or two maximum, so that people who come from other
contents can book their flights.

Most wanted to start on Friday, but I guess the main idea was to be
able to take as little holidays at work as possible (so in principle
starting on Wednesday or Thursday should be kind of ok as well?)

Option 1: Friday March 16th - Tuesday March 20th (potentially up to
two days earlier)
Option 2: Saturday March 10th - Wednesday March 14th

Option 1 coincides with many popular sport events, so we cannot book
the same house as last year (or another cute nearby location next to a
ski center on Pokljuka), but there is a sufficient number of
alternatives. (The same location as in 2016 would require quite a bit
of additional negotiation anyway since their initial offer was super
expensive compared to last time.)

Even if date-wise Option 2 would probably be more favourable, the
number of working days involved will probably lead to Option 1.

2017-12-18 Thread Mojca Miklavec
Hi,

First of all thanks to everyone who pre-registered.

The price quote I received from location where we had the meeting in
2016 is now prohibitively pricy (more than double), so we are now
actively searching for another place unless they decide to drop the
price considerably. I have a few locations in mind, but we'll try to
pick the best one ASAP.

One location with super tasty food and very friendly people is
"Penzion Sinji vrh" near Col, Ajdovščina which is a bit less than 2
hours driving from the Austrian border and a bit more than one hour
drive from Italy. It might still be covered by snow (but no ski
resort), but if you love strong wind and warm wooden stove for
brainstorming, this might be perfect. In case of bad weather there
might be problems with connectivity (on top of a hill in the middle of
nowhere). We would need to organize pickups since public
transportation is basically non-existant. But we'll keep searching
around.

Based on responses we would be aiming at March, probably the second
half, so we need to hurry up with decisions anyway.

Would be nice to go. My wife is from not too far from there - near Pordenone,
Italy. We were there for quite a bit of the summer this year. Very hot August.

Realistically, though, not too likely to be able to come to this one. March
break here in Canada is usually for desperately heading to sunshine somewhere,
and the family wouldn’t take too kindly to giving that up.

Perhaps I can log in via some kind of remote access and listen in.

Best,

Ken

Thanks a lot for "pre-registering".

We are now at 6 + 2 participants so far (that is: two people from
overseas who would be interested, but might not make it) and I expect
a few more.

So far it looks like March would be the most suitable part of the year
for most which is suggesting that we should probably hurry up with
setting up the final date and booking the place.

Clear winners are 4 nights & starting on Friday (that probably means
Friday - Tuesday?).

Video conference sounds like a nice idea, even though I'm not quite
sure how to make it work in an efficient way and what to best discuss
there. If we do organize a video conference, it would probably make
sense to make one at the very beginning and one at the very end. Not
sure about the best topic. (What I miss are regular IRC meetings or
so.)

Thank you for taking the initiative again! The meeting 2016 in Slovenia
was really a great experience. Not only that we were productive and had
some nice results, but it was also a very nice social event.

I think we already learned a lot from last time on how we should
schedule and especially document the sessions. We might also want to
look into getting some more remote involvement this time, like hosting a
video conference. However, of course I rather want all of you to attend
the meeting in person. :-)
