 Yes that's right.

I uninstalled macports and all my ports and started from scratch
Buiding OpenSceneGraph (the 3.0.1) hangs, I tried twice..
Moreover, all the dependencies installed are compressed

this sounds good, so I will cancel my OpenSceneGraph-devel @2.9.7 build

I forgot we had an OpenSceneGraph-devel port. For the moment, it's not
needed anymore. We'll either keep it around to update it again later, or
perhaps delete it since it is outdated at the moment.

macports not untar the tar files

2012-09-03 Thread nikos yiotis
Hey, is it normal for macports not to untar the tar files of the installed
port
(last couple of times I had to go to my macports location and untar)

Nope, that's not normal. But there is a bug in MacPorts where it does not
detect when, for example, decompression of a source tarball fails (if for
example your bzip2 utility is faulty), and the error message it prints is
more cryptic, like no such file or directory. If you show us a main.log
file from one of these failures maybe we can figure out what's happening.

recently upgraded to Lion so never really used this machine for coding.
to my surprise all the installed ports are compressed!!

sudo port selfupdate
port upgrade outdated

do not fix anything (although the upgrade is still running).
Shall I uninstall macports and start fresh?

Installled packages always come from compressed archives in modern
MacPorts. One advantage of this is sometimes the archive can be downloaded
prebuilt instead of always having to be compiled.

OK
as for OpenSceneGraph I installed the binaries from
http://www.alphapixel.com/osg/downloads/free-openscenegraph-binary-downloads

is it that I have to extract OpenCV's compressed dependencies first?
