Re: Which Version Of Windows7 To Install.

2011-06-02 Thread Georges Zaynoun

Hi Mark.

In the past I used XP with bootcamp and I was very happy with it.

I have a question for you and for anybody who can give an answer:
When bootcamp wants to install whatever version of Windows it supposes
that Windows is located on a cd inside the mac, is there anyway to boot
into Windows from usb flash drive or hard disk instead? Thanks.

Original message:

Hello Zachary,

Let me say that I am a Jaws user so my experience with fusion is based on
Jaws and not other very popular screen readers for Windows.

The primary reason that I recommend Boot Camp to Fusion is because of the
skill level that is required for one to efficiently navigate between the Mac
OS via VoiceOver and Windows 7 via Jaws. Ad to this the fact that, unless
one has a standard Windows keyboard (not commonly used with notebook
computers), the Jaws Key along with others, in some cases, must be
re-mapped. For many, this requires installing a third-party Windows
application that requires even more knowledge.

Now I know that there are many who will disagree with my conclusion but I
can only judge based on my experience in training beginner-level
VoiceOver/Windows 7/Jaws users.

If one is an intermediate Jaws user with thorough knowledge of how advanced
key-mapping is done and if one has a comprehensive understanding of how
Windows 7 works coupled with a more than basic understanding of VM Ware
Fusion in terms of what it does and how it does it coupled with a
comfortable VoiceOver/Mac OSX framework, then I see no problem recommending
Fusion.

However, it has been my experience that most often, new Mac users who have a
very basic understanding of Jaws attempt to use Fusion thinking it is magic.
It is not, by any means, magic.

One scenario I encounter again and again is one in which someone sets up
Fusion on a Mac for a new Mac user. The trainer provides the general step
on how to access Windows from the Mac. All appears well until the newbie
forgets to turn off VoiceOver or something in Windows requires attention
that is not easily accessed or the newbie forgets to shut down Windows in
the virtual machine, properly.

Generally, I recommend methods that, although not the coolest, will get
someone up and running with confidence in the most stable and consistent
environment.

Mark

question about pages and voiceover formatting

Good morning,
I was working in pages last evening with a document which has 2
equally spaced columns on the page. However instead of saying column 1
and column 2, voiceover says page 1 and page 2.
How does one tell the difference between that and say a 2 page
document with just one column.
also how does one announce the font size and attributes in pages.
thanks

2011-06-02 Thread M. Taylor
Hello,

Before replying, I searched Google using your very excellent question. I am
happy to say that, based on my short research, that the answer is yes; it is
possible to install Windows 7 via Boot Camp using a USB thumb-drive that
contains an ISO or disc image of Windows 7.

I suggest that you Google your question before beginning, take copious notes,
and go for it.

Apparently, this is the method used by new MacBook Air users.

Re: iMac mc508

2011-06-02 Thread TIM KILBURN
George,

I believe that the Bluetooth config info is stored within the firmware so the
keyboard and mouse will remain paired even when the HD is restored/replaced.
I'm not positive but 90% sure of this.  I've not had occasion to test this as
far as I can remember but it is a logical conclusion in my mind.  If you
consider that the new iMac is basically a computer with a brand new imaged HD,
that info is not yet within any Preference files so it must reside within the
firmware somewhere.

HTH.

Re: question about pages and voiceover formatting

2011-06-02 Thread Barry Hadder
Howdy,

If you move the vo cursor from one body text to the next, you can tell that
they are side by side. This is because you don't hear the rap sound, assuming
you have navigation sounds turned on. Vo sees each page as a group as you
interact with they lay-out area. You have to interact with a page to see the
header, footer, etc.

Also, it's not clear to me whether or not you imported an external document, or
created it yourself. In any event, you might look in the lay-out inspector and
make sure that the lay-out is set for two columns. If set for only one, a page
break will be inserted instead of a column break.

To hear text attributes, vo-v and left or right arrow.

How does one tell the difference between that and say a 2 page
 document with just one column.
also how does one announce the font size and attributes in pages.

iWork for iOS - Inaccessible/Unuseable with VoiceOver

2011-06-02 Thread Kevin Chao
My Bug list for Inaccessible/Unuseable iOS iWork, VoiceOver Accessibility.

iWork (Pages, Numbers, and KeyNote) 1.4, iOS (iPad 2 and iPhone 4)
4.3.3, VoiceOver

Pages
* Unfortunate, doesn't work well. Can't select objects and perform
actions on them.
* If I select object, swipe or touch anywhere, except info button.
Selection will be cleared.
* Inserting tables, charts, etc is possible, but non-descriptive
buttons and no way to edit diagram data.
* It's possible to show/hide ruler, but not accessible. Only
italic/bold/underline and justification is spoken.
* Many unlabeled controls under Info pop-up.
* No way to check pixel/inch position of body of text.
* No way to Perform action on object, even to check font/paragraph
info line/word
* Line navigation using Apple bluetooth keyboard is slow. Touch screen is fluid.
* No HTML navigation. No Dropbox sharing.

KeyNote
* Adding slide, grid of various slide type appear, which one can *not*
swipe to. Must touch/drag.
* Adding content to one slide, then trying to add content to another
slide, KeyNote will crash, report file is corrupt, and close.
* If start slide show is activated, VoiceOver doesn't read any part
of app, including slide content, slide controls, speaker notes, etc

Numbers
* cell selection is not possible
* manipulation/formatting of non-selected cells is not possible
*row navigation is *not possible.

Conclusion: #iWork for iOS, even iPhone V1.4 is an improvement.
However, lots of work yet for #VoiceOver#accessibility needs to be
done, before it's even considered usable, but after a lot more work
for true accessibility

Unfortunately, #iPad#VoiceOver#accessibility of #iWork entire suite is
very poor All same issues as that was detailed for iPhone version.

Kevin I hope if you submit all of this you provide a little more detail such as
steps if applicable etc.
You have made some good observations, but some things may not be as obvious and
I believe if APple gets good feedback it is possible the issues will be
addressed. Good points and I think progress has been made, but far from being
completed.

When you enter the blank template, go to where it says body and then interact

HTML Source and Keyboard Questions

2011-06-02 Thread Ezzie Buenito

How exactly can I get the URL of a webpage so that I can copy it

On another note, can someone please remind me which keys on the

that sure how I got along without those keys.

Any help is appreciated.

mp3 to text?

Odd question perhaps, but is there a utility that will do this, on the mac

I have an mp3 file of a very poor quality, even more so than usual for a
