I Mac.
Hello All. At long last, I will be in receipt of my I Mac hopefully before or by 2 Jan. I've been without a computer for sometime so haven't been reading all the threads regarding Itunes 11. I tried using Itunes 11 at work on my Windows PC using Jaws but could not make head or tail as I'm so use to how it was laid out for the Mac. Happy Christmas to you all. Re: Drobo Accessability
It is, or was not, accessible last time I tried it mid this year. I bought a NetGear Ultra NAS four bay model, very well made device, takes anything from 1 to 4 drives and is in my view as good as the DroBo. It has the same beyond RAID technology although NetGear call their version X-RAID. You can enable double or duel disk redundancy provided you have enough disks installed and the units within the range are all very well made. The important bit, the interface is HTML through Safari and as such, accessible. You can also configure Time Machine to backup to a NetGear ReadyNAS as I do, this works perfectly without third party software, which you have to do with a droBo. Bootcamp Assistant says there's not enough space on the startup disc for a partition
Hi all, I've created a USB Flash drive with all the Windows files and support software to install Windows 7 on my Macbook air with a 128 GB SSD. However, the first step is keeping me from this goal. I run Bootcamp Assistant, and it says that the startup disc doesn't have enough space to be partitioned. I'm using only 7 GB of the drive for files and things, but I'm unable to partition it in Disc Utility. Everything's dimmed, and interacting with the content says it's empty, when attempting to shrink the current partition so I can make a new one for bootcamp. Having done extensive google research, it seems the only options are to restore the drive, since Bootcamp needs contiguous space to install Windows on. And from what i've also read, restoring a drive isn't very accessible with voiceover and Disc Utility. Is there any other way to go about this, so i don't have to restore and lose all data? Could I add a partition to the HD that wouldn't affect my data, but would satisfy bootcamp's requirements? Also, what is the keystroke to get Voiceover to speak at the boot manager menu, that you get to by holding down option at Startup? I remember getting this to speak with Fred when installing mountain Lion and reformatting the hard drive from the disc utility at this screen, but don't remember how to get Voiceover up. Re: Spotlight
Hi guys I have always gotten in the habit of using spotlight most the time. I started doing that because my teacher at Apple when I took one to one showed me how to do that, and I got in the habit of it. Re: Bootcamp Assistant says there's not enough space on the startup disc for a partition
Don't think you can get VO to speak at the boot menu. Pressing option allows you to select a start-up disk but during that time only the basic kernel is loaded, no sound drivers would be. Best option would be command plus r for recovery, maybe then you could try and change the startup disk by exiting the OS 10 application, then change the disk that way. The type of disk you have; is it flash? Or is it a regular USB drive? Restoring disks isn't easy, I've tried, so it confirms your research. I myself haven't created a partition myself, but I'd love to learn how to do that myself on the Mac. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups MacVisionaries group. Re: Bootcamp Assistant says there's not enough space on the startup disc for a partition
If you're talking about the recovery partitionscreen that you get to by selecting Recovery HD from the boot manager screen, then Command F5 should bring up VO there. The disk utility is available there and not at the boot manager screen. You can't get speech at the boot manager screen, which is the screen that appears when you press and hold the option key at bootup. At that screen, you can only use the arrow keys to select the boot partition you want, and if you don't know the order of your boot partitions, you'll either have to experiment, or grab some poor unsuspecting sighted person to help you. Personally, I go across the street and ask my eighty year old neighbor to read the screen for me. Podcast issues. Need tips
Hey podcasters. So I have been publishing podcasts regularly with wordpress on htn2.com. I just tried to post our 39th episode and did everything the same as I normally do. I write up the post then embed the link into it. This has worked reliably for months until now. Now when I check in Downcast it says that there is no media found but the rest of the article is there. I know it works because you can listen to it form the website but not in Downcast. It won't even show up in iTunes since for some reason the media isn't working. Any ideas on how to troubleshot and fix this problem? I have no idea what has changed since the 7th of December which ws when the lest show went up without a hitch. Thanks and Merry Christmas! Hi all, Relating to my earlier post about bootcamp and it saying the hard disc doesn't have enough space to be partitioned, will it work if I partition my hard disc? I have begun reading the documentation, and there in lies my problem. I'm unable to get bootcamp assistant to create a windows partition on the hard disc. It says there's not enough space. With a 128 GB SSD, I'm not sure why this error is occurring. Due to my research, I thought partitioning the disc would be a fix. Apparently, this is not the case. Thank you. Hi all, Relating to my earlier post about bootcamp and it saying the hard disc doesn't have enough space to be partitioned, will it work if I partition my hard disc? Going from 1 to 2 partitions? i'm in the process of backing up my most important files, and will then partition the hard disc from the disc utilities screen in the recovery window reached by command R. Thanks to those who suggested it earlier. that was the step I was missing to get there. So if someone could confirm if dividing of the HD into 2 partitions will be what I need for a successful install of windows 7 with boot camp, I'd greatly appreciate it! booting into Windows
What is the easiest way to boot into Windows when restarting the Mac if you don't want to change the startup disk to Windows in preferences? I just installed a bootcamp partition with Windows. -- Cheryl May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable to You, Lord, my rock and my Redeemer. Re: booting into Windows
It depends on your setup. When you get to the boot manager screen, there are a line of icons, one for each bootable partition. Usually, from left to right they are Mac HD, then the Recovery HD if you don't have any other bootables on the system. When you bootcamp, a third icon for Windows is added, and I think its placed second in line. So, it'd be left to right, MacHD, Windows, then recovery HD. The leftmost icon is always selected, so a single right arrow will select the windows partition, and another right arrow will select the recovery HD. That is, of course, assuming that I'm right about the order that windows is placed in the icon list. By the Way, you can right arrow or left arrow and the selection cursor will wrap around when you reach the beginning or end. This can be helpful if you want to get quickly to the rightmost icon - just left arrow once and it'll wrap around the the rightmost icon. So experiment. You know that the MacHD is the leftmost icon, and is selected by default. So press right arrow once and press enter. If windows comes up, then its second in line, if the recovery HD comes up, then Windows must be third in line and so forth. I have four bootable partitions on my system: MacHD, Windows, RecoveryHD, MacHD clone on bootable external drive I can't remember their order, so, I just switch from MacHD to Windows and back again by changing the boot order either in Mac or Windows - its easier for me that way. . - Original Message - From: Cheryl Homiak To: macvisionaries@googlegroups.com Sent: Monday, December 24, 2012 10:39 PM Subject: booting into Windows What is the easiest way to boot into Windows when restarting the Mac if you don't want to change the startup disk to Windows in preferences? Re: booting into Windows
Hello everyone. I have Windows 7 64 bit installed in a boot camp partition and it worked for a while. Now when I try to boot into Windows I get a black screen. However I can see the partition and my data. Have any of you ever experienced this behaviore? If so, how did you fix this? Merry Christmas.
