Re: accessible application for burning a movie onto a dvd

2013-12-10 Thread Ray Foret Jr
Uh, I don’t think you can burn films you buy through ITunes on to DVD because
of the restrictive characteritsics of the .m4v files and the fact that they are
protected. Now, .mov files you record on your Iphone or other camera, you can
burn those. I’d suggest using Burn for that.

Sent from my Mac, the only computer with full accessibility for the blind
built-in!

The Constantly Barefooted Ray, still a very happy Mac and Iphone 5 user!

Re: mac update?

Hi.

 Hi,
Cocktail (usually $19 for license) is certainly accessible. I used the
previous version of ExpanDrive (usually $39.95 for license) for FTP, which
was the solution for people who preferred a GUI-based FTP app before the
later versions of Transmit we're released. Now I use Transmit, but I think
ExpanDrive is still accessible. I'd have to ask on the Mac-Access list where
I think ExpanDrive 3 was the chosen FTP app of some people a year ago, since
I've never seen any discussion on this list. I think the Paragon NTFS 2-in1
bundle that normally lists for $29.95 may be accessible. at least, I know
people on the Mac-Access list who have used the part that lets NTFS drives be
viewed from the Mac. Since the other part is supposed to let Windows
users read Mac formatted drives, I have no idea of its accessibility. You
could try posting to the Mac-access list for questions on some of these apps.

I'll just note that purchasing MacUpdate bundles or MacUpdate promos on
individual apps requires that you create an account, which entails a one-time
negotiation of a CAPTCHA. Afterwords, the buying process is accessible, and
you can access a record of your receipts, license codes, and download links
from logging into your account. They also let you designate the individual
apps in the bundle to other users, in case this includes something you have
already purchased. There's usually a link for trial downloads so you could
check the accessibility for yourself before purchasing.

bookmarks hidden

2013-12-10 Thread jean parker
Hello All:
Well somehow it has happened again. I go to my bookmarks and they are hidden
somehow. The new bookmarks which is where they are is checked. If I stop
interacting with the left hand table and arrow to the right, the next thing is
a search field. Continuing to the right is a horizontal splitter. What is
supposed to come next is a table listing all my bookmarks but this is missing.
Instead what comes next is something called new collection. When I interact
with the horizontal splitter it says that something is collapsed. I don't know
if that has anything to do with why I can't see my bookmarks or not.
Anyway, all help is appreciated. The last time this happened I can't remember
what I did to fix it.

Paragraph Styles in the New Pages

2013-12-10 Thread Des Delgadillo
I primarily use Pages for writing broadcast scripts and working on
screenplays, and not having to do either thing for a few months, I was
pleasantly surprised when I upgraded to the new Pages and found it
significantly less clunky than before. My only question is: Is there
still a way to create hot keys or shortcut combinations for specific
paragraph styles? I can't seem to find that functionality in the
formatter. Typically I use this to create shortcuts for elements of a
screenplay, since it gets very tedious very quickly to keep jumping
from formatter to page text since screenplay elements change so often.

If anyone can answer or point me in the right direction I offer the
sincerest gratitude.

Re: Paragraph Styles in the New Pages

2013-12-10 Thread Anne Robertson
Hello Des,

Unfortunately, there are no longer hot keys to do this. However, VO-j will take
you to the Formatter, and I find that I land on the Paragraph styles button if
that’s where I was last time. If you give your paragraph styles names beginning
with different letters, you can just click the Paragraph styles button, go to
last visible item (VO-End) and type the first letter of the style you want. You
then press VO-j to be back in your text.

Another annoying thing is that you can’t monitor the style. I tried putting a
hotspot on the name of the style having interacted with the button, but no joy.
I hope they do something about this soon.

Cheers,

Anne

Hi.

If the app is running, then navigate to that item on the Dock, press

Re: Escape Key was Speakable Items

2013-12-10 Thread BBS
Hi Gina and Lee. If your escape key doesn't work, you can also program
it to listen for a key word. For example, if you wanted the keyword to
be Siri, you could program it to respond everytime you say Siri. After
you say the keyword, it'll make a sound and then you can issue the
command you want to have done. The only disadvantage about that is that
it bypasses your setting for the monitor to go to sleep so I suggest
that you only have that on when you need it.

Apple Care Policy

2013-12-10 Thread Antonio Guimaraes
Hi all,

I don't know if this has been mentioned on this list, but you get AppleCare
extended for three months if you upgrade to Mavericks.

This policy is in place even for people with older computers like myself. I
have a 2008 iMac, and I spent a considerable amount of time trying to fix my
issues with mail with a rep from the Apple Accessibility line yesterday.

Just a quick FYI.

Hello Esther and All,

Just as an aside from an ignorant person as I sometimes feel to be, what
do you use FTP client for? I have an ftp application installed on my
macbook air which was free in the App Store, and it not infrequently
launches as if s;spontaneously and asks me to specify a default folder
for something or other. If you don't mind sharing a bit of info, I'd
like to know what I might use it for. It sounds complicated whenever I
go into its menus and have a look around out of curiosity.

Accessible App: BitCoin Ticker

2013-12-10 Thread Cara Quinn
Hi All,

Here is an accessible Bitcoin ticker.

the app lists currency types on the ticker screen near the top. Below these,
are a list of markets, and then below that (toward the middle of the screen is
the actual updating info on bitcoin for the market and currency you have chosen.

Under that are ads, unless you upgrade for 2.99 USD I believe.

Lastly, at the bottom of the screen, are the Ticker, Alerts and About tabs.

The Alerts tab is of particular interest as you may set an alert to pop up when
the bitcoin value either drops below a certain threshold or goes above a
threshold. These alerts can be set for a particular market and type of currency
and you may have several alerts configured at once.

Enjoy!

Re: Podcasts in VLC

2013-12-10 Thread Cheryl Homiak
You don't need the file menu and you don't activate the menu bar.

Choose podcasts from the table, meaning interact with the table and when on
podcasts stop interacting.
Do vo-right arrow until you come to the subscribe button. Do vo-space on the
subscribe button.
A dialog comes up telling you to enter the url of the podcast you want to
subscribe to. Enter the url and do vo-space on subscribe.Once you have done
that, type the name of the podcast in the search field and then vo-right arrow;
there should be a table with your episodes. i think they play but do not
download. There is a record function in the playback menu you could use.
If you want to find the url for a podcast you already subscribed to in itunes,
open iTunes and choose podcasts from the pop-up (the pop-up probably has Music
at the top). Then choose the my podcasts radio button. Find the podcast for
which you want the url and do vo-shift-m; one of the menu items will be copy
url. This copies the url and then you can paste it in VLC's text field next to
the subscribe button.

Yes, bitcoin is beginning to be used by some retailers.

This app is a ticker though, not a wallet. So you would not use it to spend or

The purpose of this app is simply to track the trading value of bitcoin

Hope this helps.

I think I have the jist of it, needing to hook it into the line in/out jacks,
which I'm not 100% sure which ones are where, and could use some tips on the
conversion process, considering the fact that I've never really played around
much with audacity much, sense the few times I've tried, I couldn't make heads
or tails of it, so gave up on it, so would love some pointers. Whatever info
someone could give me here would really be appreciated.

Wordpress Webinar for the Blind

2013-12-10 Thread Mike M
Hi everyone!
I’m setting up a webinar for Wordpress from an accessibility standpoint
and I wanted to let you know about it.
This is for people who have been wanting to set a Wordpress site up and
haven’t, or who have and didn’t make it very far.
I’m running two sites and have been using Wordpress daily for around
two years now so a lot of what will be taught are things learned from
experience.
This won’t cover PHP, HTML, CSS, or anything advanced like that. This
is mainly to get people started.
There are only 6 slots left in the January course so if you might be
interested follow this link for the full details and info on how you can
reserve your spot.
Feel free to email me off list if you have any other questions.

Re: an embarrassing question

2013-12-10 Thread Cheryl Homiak
It actually says Macintosh HD, right? And it's on your desktop?

Okay, vokeys-arrow over to it and press return. It will say acintosh HD
contents selected. Don't start typing or you'll have to type the whole thing
because you will be replacing the name instead of adding to it. Left arrow and
make sure you are at the beginning of acintosh and type the capital m (it's
okay to then left and right arrow through the word to make sure it's right but
don't use vo-keys, just arrows) and then press return again. Don't panic if you
then get finder has no windows just command-tab away and back again and
everything should look fine.

Nothing dumb about this. I accidentally did this and ended up searching on
google to make sure I hadn't messed up my path to all my files; the panic
wasn't necessary but it scared me! I was NOT a new Mac user when I did it plus
I had run linux and windows but it still made my heart miss a beat or two!

Re: USb turntable help/reccomendations.

2013-12-10 Thread Chris Blouch
While I haven't played around with this, most USB turntables will not
hook up to your line in/out jacks. The turntable will just connect via
USB and have a built-in analog to digital converter. So it should just
show up as a generic audio input device which you can record from using
your favorite app. You could even do it with plain old quicktime if you
so desired. the more tricky stuff is splitting up the recorded audio
into tracks along with any post-processing for scratches and such. Then
you also have to name each track and add all the other meta data like
album name, artist, release date etc. In the end you have to consider if
all that is worth your time. Unless you have some rare or special stuff
it might be money better spent in iTunes getting pristine copies of your
favorite tracks or even buying the CD versions and importing them. If
you still want to go forward I'd check into the turntables offered by
Sweetwater, Guitar Center, BH and the like. Seems to start at about
$100 for a basic one and goes up to about $800 for a super deluxe model.
