Facebook Frustrations: What else is new?

2015-05-02 Thread Christine Grassman
If this has been covered, (and it probably has, at some point), I apologize,
and please feel free to email me off list, but I am going nuts trying to update
my profile on Facebook. I thought I had everything set to Friends, but as I try
to update my profile, my birthday is set to “friends of friends” and where I
work is “public”. When I click on “change visibility” or “select audience” I
get a list with no buttons or links, and when I try to select and save, there
is a cancel button, but no save changes or anything remotely similar.
Additionally, there are certain bits of information I choose to leave blank,
and I also choose to be flip when filling in some information. For example,
for work” I wrote “Amid the chaos”. When I am trying to update work
information, there is a save button, but it is dimmed, so apparently Facebook
doesn’t like my sense of humor, or there is some other issue. If someone could
tell me how to set everything on my page to Friends (if at all possible), and
how on earth I can update my profile successfully, I would very much appreciate
it.

Re: how to use windows on mac

2015-05-02 Thread Dionipher Presas Herrera
i think i'll give up using windows on vm ware. i think i should use bootcamp
instead.
On 01 May 2015, at 10:50 pm, Grant Hardy grant.li...@icloud.com wrote:

You don’t really have to turn off VoiceOver, but it’s generally best if you
do. This is mainly due to the fact that VO specific keystrokes, and in fact
any keystrokes where CONTROL and OPTION are held down, won’t be passed to
Windows. For example, if you have CONTROL+ALT+J set up to open up your
Windows screen reader, that command won’t work while VoiceOver is on because
the system will interpret that key as a VoiceOver command.

In general you can use Windows exactly the same way that you normally would.
The COMMAND KEY acts as your WINDOWS KEY, while the OPTION KEY acts as your
ALT KEY. This includes installing your screen reader any normal way that you
usually would, such as downloading an executable file, opening File Explorer,
navigating to the folder where that executable file is stored, then hit ENTER
to start the install. The only thing you’ll probably have to do is remap one
of the keys on your keyboard to act as your screen reading key, because CAPS
LOCK doesn’t get passed through to your virtual machine by default. The
common practice has been to remap a key like the GRAVE ACCENT KEY to become
an INSERT KEY, which you can do in VMWare’s preferences. As well, with third
party software you can also use the CAPS LOCK KEY as your screen reading key,
a method I’ve covered recently on this list. If you search the archives, you
can find information about both of these methods. If you’re stuck, feel free
to reply and we’ll provide more information. I have really been meaning to
document all of this in an article or something so it’s easy to find. I got
started with VMWare mostly with trial and error until I found what works best.

current location with maps app

2015-05-02 Thread Todor Fassl
I was walking somewhere last night and I somehow got the IOS maps app to
keep calling out my current location. Every ten seconds or so, it would
say something like Current location, 6677 Elm Street. It would even
say what the cross street was when I arrived at one. But then I had to
find out what time it was and after tapping the time, I couldn't get the
maps app back into the mode where it would keep calling out my current
location.

What magical motions do I have to make to get the maps app to do that again?

Re: current location with maps app

2015-05-02 Thread Jenine Stanley
The Maps app for iOS is slightly different from the Maps app for WatchOS. In
the iOS Maps app there’s a setting called Tracking. It has 3 modes, Off, On and
On with Headings. On and On with Headings call out streets. Headings give you
the compass directions as you walk and of the cross streets.

The WatchOS app has a Tracking mode as well and it only has On and Off. I
haven’t played with it yet to see just how it behaves when on and walking.

The iOS Maps app doesn’t seem to port its settings, i.e., Tracking mode
setting, to the WatchOS app.

Hi Daniel,

thanks for the thought. that was actually the first thing I tried, but it
didn't work. I think it has something to do with how VO scrolls through the
apps, it seems to go across a row, then up to the next row and across, and so
on. But even using that model, I haven't been able to work it out.

Good luck with your decision. I have to say you might be wise to hold out for
the next gen. I'm still thinking about returning mine, and waiting, too. It's
got a lot going for it, but it's a little rough around the edges for prime
time, IMO.
Cheers,
Donna

Applications Appearing Smaller

2015-05-02 Thread Brandon A. Olivares
Hello,

I’m not sure how to describe this, but some applications seem to be appearing
minimized or smaller. When I’m in Transmit FTP for instance, or even in
Terminal, lines get wrapped at only like 20-30 characters. I have to make it
full screen to make it appear normal. This has never happened before now. Any
idea why this might be?

Well, although I stated a little while ago that pressing the button in Radium

I truly wish that an app that is rather accessible would elect to remain that

Radium for Mac OS X is a mess at this point.

is there a chance to make the rtf editor in Marsedit work? I experience the

because VO looses track and doesn’t give a feedback reliably.

Thanks and

2015-05-02 Thread Christopher-Mark Gilland
Someone actually stated earlier that Tunein was available on OSX. Maybe I
understood incorrectly, but I was under the impression that what they meant
was that there was an official OSX app. I know it's on I O S, but not OSX
that I know of. I searched all over the Tunein web site, but cannot find
any reference anywhere whatsoever to where this app would be for OSX, so if
they have an app seperet from just using their web site's embedded player,
then by all means, I wanna hear about it. Where do I get it, and, is it
accessible?

Re: Recording facetime calls

2015-05-02 Thread Lisette Wesseling
Hi again,
Thanks to Christopher for his instructions on using quick time. What's odd is
that you can choose either internal microphone or external one if attached. If
you choose the external mic such as the earbud mic, you can still faintly hear
system sounds including voice over. Voice over is coming through the earphones,
but it's sort of faintly being recorded as well. I'm presuming there's no way
to record both system sounds and external mic at once, unless you use Audio
Highjack right? Just getting my head around it all. Thanks.

But I'm not talking about the Watch Face, I'm talking about the home screen,
