Yeah Donna,

My Rhaspberry pi 3 is going to be used for security cameras aroud my house,

And the simple thing is they are just USB web cameras to the pi with an OS
called Motion eye OS which lets you setup all the features you need

Very cool and for next to no cost.

Hi Donna, you can do a lot with them. People run phone servers, bitcoin
mining, cameras, media centers, video game consoles, and a host of other
things. They make great micro controllers do to the I/o bus and you can even
parallelize them. Someone built a 98 member Bayo Wolf super computing cluster
with a pile of pis and some small ethernet switches.

You can run speak up on them as well as the Orka screen reader with a USB sound
dongle. You can also access them remotely via ssh and use the accessibility
tools on your native machine.

The Mac is great working with these small devices because of the Unix
filesystem under the hood. You can drop to terminal and build your cards and
work with the files with out needing to install extra software.

Good stuff.

Also the wiping of the device can be set when you setup the pin code.

If the wrong pin code is entered 10 times incorrectly then the phone gets wiped.

Possibly that has happened which is good because no one gets their hands on
your data and the phone is still locked

Hi just copy the file and then on the new hypervisor when you first boot tell
the package you copied the file and it will rebuild the network interfaces.
Should work just fine.

Re: OT: Re: Adventures with Raspberry Pi

2017-03-10 Thread Scott Granados

Good stuff.

How do I use autocomplete on iOS apps?

2017-03-10 Thread 'Chris Blouch' via MacVisionaries
I've been fiddling around trying to figure this out. If I'm on an app
like mail, itunes, calendar etc. there is a search control. If I double
tap that, I get a keyboard to enter some characters. As I'm typing there
are search results or autocomplete suggestions being displayed. Two
questions. First, shouldn't it say something about "7 matches found" or
the like? Second, what's the best way to reach those? Only gesture I
could come up with was a two finger up flick to read from the top of the
page, which usually lands me on or near the first
suggestion/autocomplete item, but not always. I can also just randomly
tap somewhere towards the middle of the screen but it seems like there
ought to be a more reliable process. I found lots of instructions for
web widgets and for Voiceover OSX, but nothing for iOS apps. This all
started because an iOS product team was asking me to check over their
app for accessibility and one of their new features was search
suggestions. I couldn't figure out how to easily navigate to them so I
thought I'd show the developers what it works like in another app, only
to discover I couldn't get it working (well) on any of them. Any
tips/pointers?

2017-03-10 Thread Anders Holmberg

Re: Creating email folders and labels

2017-03-10 Thread Traci Duncan
Hi, as far as I know I have done things correctly, but the rules aren’t
automatically running. I came across a groupon email in my inbox and hit run
rule, then it moved to my deals folder, but it didn’t do it without my input.

Do you think I need to add a rule to skip inbox? What I have is a list of
addresses to move into deals folder. Since sales emails sometimes use
different email addresses, I set it up from contains groupon.com
. Another example is from contains propellants.com. I
went to the original emails to make sure I had the letters in the URL correct.

What are your thoughts? In the mean time, I’m going to look at the rule
options again.

Thanks,
Traci

Re: OT: Re: Adventures with Raspberry Pi

2017-03-10 Thread Scott Granados
Hi Donna,

Raspberry pi (pi as in the ratio of the circumference to radius of a circle and
all that), is what we’re talking about. A raspberry pi is a small, credit card
sized PC on a board that you can program yourself. It uses a micro SD card for
file storage / disk and includes 1GB of memory, a quad core ARM processor,
video processor, WiFi, Bluetooth, Audio, 4USB and an ethernet port. In the
case I have for it the whole thing is about as big as a deck of cards. I have
a full featured phone system and fax server on mine. They also include a 40
pin I/O port that you can break out for other devices like serial lines,
printers, extra fans, and so on and so forth. Cost is about $35 for a pie and
you can get in to full kits for $70 or so on Amazon.

There is a good list already that’s raspberry...@freelists.org

And there’s the raspberry-vi.org site which is a good starter. I’ll answer
some of the questions here and if the mods want this to go away I’ll happily
comply.

Is there any interest in a review of and a little discussion around
raspberry Pis? I’m using one now which I set up entirely with out
assistance using my Mac and I can make the post Mac centric if there’s
interest. To be clear though it is a non apple product and in terms of
the topic of this list probably skirts the edges but if the moderators
are willing and there’s interest I’d be happy to post here. If not I’m
happy to close the thread if there’s objection.

 Thanks

Hi. Strangely enough, My phone was erased during the early hours of this
morning by using the Find my iPhone app. I was shocked as no one else had my

 Hi,

Yes, you can find it with some restrictions. The iPhone needs to be on
and connected to a network. Putting it in Lost Mode will help to restrict
use of it though as it will, I believe, lock it up as soon as connection
is made. Once you erase the phone, though, I believe that you no longer
have any ability to locate it.

I'm very interested. I've had one for months, but each time I try to load the

network details on the Pi so I can SSH into it after boot, which is the only
way I'll be doing anything on it.

Re: page up and page down on the mac

2017-03-10 Thread Anne Robertson
Hello Simon,

FN-Up Arrow and FN-Down Arrow are indeed the equivalents to the Page Up and
Page Down keys on an extended keyboard, but they do not move any cursors. They
are purely visual effects and therefore useless to a VoiceOver user.
Adding the VO keys makes them move the VO cursor in applications such as Pages
and TextEdit, but you have to be interacting with the text area.

Cheers,

Anne

Re: Question re Fruitpot on IOS

2017-03-10 Thread Robert Hill
Hi,

When I had this issue with the videos freezing the game, I wrote to the
developer, and he said just quit the game.
All of your settings and rewards will still be intact when you restart it.

I haven’t had any videos to watch lately, so I am not sure if this is fixed in
later updates.

Hi Scott,

I'm actually about to start using one

I've been looking at setting up a security camera or 3 around my place and this
was given to me as an option which was cheap and useable.

So I got the PI 3 and have downloaded the motion eye os which is the security
cam OS version and have installed it to the sd card now I just have to
configure it.
I'm going to have to use the command line as the web interface is really badly
done
But yeah I might be up to listening

though it is a non apple product and in terms of the topic of this list
probably skirts the edges but if the moderators are willing and there’s
interest I’d be happy to post here. If not I’m happy to close the thread if
there’s objection.

Thanks

RE: page up and page down on the mac

2017-03-10 Thread Simon Fogarty
Hi Candy,

When doing page up or page down, just use function key and up arrow or down
arrow on your keyboard,

The function key vo key combo with arrow up or down is what's causing your
ding
Drop the vo keys.

Subject: page up and page down on the mac

I am still having difficulty going up and down a page on the mac. For example
when I'm reading through a long email and want to move down by page, I press
the function key along with the vo keys and down arrow, and all I hear is a
beep and nothing happens. The left and right arrow keys will move the cursor to
home and end just fine. Does anyone know how I can solve this issue? It is time
consuming to move through a long email or document by lines.
