Re: Accessible FTP client?

2017-03-16 Thread Tim Kilburn
Hi,

Further to Scott's suggestion, you can use FTP from the Finder as well, as long
as you're not trying to upload to the FTP server. Simply press cmd-k to open
the Connect to Server dialog, enter ftp://server_Name or
ftp://server_IP_address . Alternatively, my go to app
for FTP is Transmit. Totally accessible, but not free.

Re: Changing the writing from left to right, to right to left, and something about footnotes

2017-03-16 Thread Scott Granados
Wow, I just learned something new. Or rather had a new thought. I know that
some languages are written right to left but I never ever thought about
translating that to a computer display or even entering text that way.

Very very interesting. I don’t have your solution but thank you for expanding
my horizons a little.

Hi Kliph, the Mac comes with ftp as part of the OS. Simply enter your terminal
and type ftp
You can also type
ftp ftp.targetserver.com where target server is
the domain name of the site you’re trying to reach. An example might be.
ftp ftp.kernel.org

Once in ftp you use your normal cd and lcd commands, ls and so forth.

You also have the full SSH suite available so you can sftp and SCP if you want

Changing the writing from left to right, to right to left, and something about footnotes

2017-03-16 Thread Ramy Moustafa
Hello:

This Question may be strange for some people, but am typing in Arabic,
and I need my Arabic writing to be from right to left, also, how can
I let Voice over read the writing direction?

My Second question is that: can I increase or decrease the footnote font?
Thanks in advance

Re: The Native iOS News App: It's Right There Waiting for You

2017-03-16 Thread Jonathan Cohn
Yes, for some content providers, the advertisement refreshes cause
VoiceOver to hiccup. Usually a two finger swipe down works and if not, then
a touch to find article text and then a two finger swipe down starts
reading again. Certainly not as easy to read as NFB Newsline, but then
Apple tries to give you a fair selection of different views and sources.
When I use NFB Newsline, I almost always go to the same 3 sources to read
my news.

Hi Mark,

How are you getting around the screen refreshes? When I open an article, and
have VO start reading, I’ll hear the sound as if a web page finishes loading
and VO stops reading. The only way to get VO to start reading again is to
start from the beginning of the article. Other than that, I agree with you.

Blessings,

The Native iOS News App: It's Right There Waiting for You

2017-03-16 Thread M. Taylor

Hello All,

Recently, in addition to my third-party news apps, I have started using the
native iOS app on my iPhone.

The app has really come a long way in terms of being VoiceOver accessible.
With the built-in notifications settings for many of its news channels, and
given how easily one can (1) save articles for later viewing and (2) easily
share articles to popular social media outlets, I am finding it remarkably
convenient and fun to use.

So, give it a try if you have not done so.

The native iOS news app, it's right there waiting for you.

Mark

Re: Downloading audio from a web site

2017-03-16 Thread 'Janina Sajka' via MacVisionaries
This looks very straight forward to me. I should think you can download
by using a right mouse click menu.

The files are not hidden in any way. They're simple mp3 files, one file
per part. Your chosen part is one stereo channel, and the rest is on the
other channel, so you can have fun adjusting the panning.

PS: I don't have my Mac at hand at the moment, but I looked at this site
using the good old Lynx browser. If it's lynx friendly, and this site
is, there's just not much in your way.

Good luck!

Janina

Re: Downloading audio from a web site

2017-03-16 Thread Marc Sutton
Hi,
There is a Mac app called Downie that allows you to type or paste a url
into the app and get a video or audio file as a conversion. It works on
many websites and the developer is keen on accessibility. If you want to
send me a specific link i can try it out or i bet they have a demo version.

Re: USB Drive Enclosure

2017-03-16 Thread jeff `greene
Hi E.T. You are most welcome! Its the best usb enclosure I've ever
owned. I've had many over the years and it seems like they all fail in
the second year, and that's just keeping them in a drawer. The Newer
Tech just works every time.

And cheap becomes expensive. Thanks for the recommendation. I
 added
the USB 3 model to my wish list on Amazon. Nut sure yet what I will do
 as
the current data now exceeds the old drive.
