p cloud problems

2017-08-21 Thread jean parker
Hi Simon:

I have been using dropbox for many years. I have it linked to an external drive
because I have a large number of files on their and I don’t want it taking up
space on my hard drive. Currently, I have between 5 and 6 hundred gigs in my
dropbox.

Recently, I went to make some adjustments to my dropbox and found that I
couldn’t open it. So I tried to uninstall it and I keep getting error messages
implying that it can’t deleted because it is in use, which it isn’t, or that
some extentions are in use, or some other cryptic nonsense.

To try and remedy the problem I thought to try p cloud thinking that I could
store all of my files in it and it wouldn’t take up space on my drive thereby
eliminating the external drive issue. I installed that and basically the same
thing happened. It won’t open and it also won’t uninstall.

Honestly, I get so tired of this sort of thing!

2017-08-21 Thread Nancy Badger
Hello,
First I navigate to the bottom of the email and find the attachment. It will
read the name of the file. Then I interact with it. Then I use vo shift m and a
menu comes up. Are usually go to open in, and arrow down through the choice of
programs which will open the attachment.

Hi Nickus,

I too have been experiencing problems trying to open an attachment in an email
message. I've given up on this and I save the attachments first to downloads
and then open them from there. I guess you know how to save attachments. It's
done through the file menu and you can choose in the dialog window where you
want to save them.

Best wishes

Nah, you don’t want them, they aren’t a good phone.

We recycle them because we want get these devices out of circulation. Also we

Speaking only for myself, it's not the eclipse that I'm bummed out about
missing. In fact, we are in the path of the eclipse where I live now. It's
the fun parties! lol

I believe the eclipse to which you refer is in 2027. I know that Illinois is
in the path of that one, too.

Take care,

Accessing attachments in Mail on the Mac

2017-08-21 Thread Nickus de Vos
Hi all
I recently started using Mail on the Mac. I have one issue, opening or saving
attachments which are sent to me has so far been a hit and miss, sometimes I
can access them and other times not.

I usually try command plus O to open or VO space on them, can anyone give me
tips on how I can deal with email attachments?

Issue with Apple Mail saving drafts on my Gmail.

2017-08-21 Thread Nickus de Vos
Hi all
I’m not sure if this is a Voiceover issue or a general bug in the Apple Mail
app.

I have a Gmail account added in Apple Mail. On the Mac I only use this mail
account threw the Mail application, but when working on Windows I access the
account threw a browser.

When ever composing a new mail in the Apple Mail app, I would type the email
and afterwards I would go to the toolbar and select attachments to attach a
file. After selecting a file to attach I will then send the email.
It seams that if after typing the email and clicking on attachments, a draft of
the email is saved on the Gmail server, even though I send the email after
attaching a file.

Result of this is that a lot of drafts end up in my email conversations when
accessing the email account threw a browser, this is very annoying.

Have anyone else experienced this and is there a fix for it?

I said the same thing what a waste, but I still find the phone to be
lovely. Waiting on the IPhone 8 as well though. I won't be getting it
if it will not have touch id because I have gotten use to using that
in most apps. It will probably take most apps to upgrade to face reg.
a couple months.

2017-08-21 Thread Simon Fogarty
Thanks Mark,

Again a great article.

I do find the later comment re the release sometime next month of the IOS 11
and new iPhones of interest,

Previous articals you have sent to us have made comments of later release dates
on the new devices.

But this sounds like an interesting feature although I'm not sure I could press
the button 5 times quickly before someone takes my phone off me.

Guess I'll give it a go.

Everyone,

Just so we are all clear, I am posting the following as a news article, only,

details.

iOS 11 'cop button' also helps users w/ Medical ID protect their data if
unconscious

9to5Mac - Friday, August 18, 2017 at 11:01 AM iOS 11 'cop button' also helps
users w/ Medical ID protect their data if unconscious

iOS 11 beta 6 (released earlier this week) includes a new feature to quickly
disable Touch ID from the lock screen. Tapping the lock button five times to
access the SOS screen or opening a Medical ID will cause the iPhone or iPad to
temporarily reject all Touch ID attempts, requiring a passcode to unlock.
We have confirmed with sources that this behavior is intentional rather than a
bug, as well as some explanation as to why it was added. Whilst in theory it
can be used to prevent law enforcement from compelling suspects to unlock their
device with fingerprint, it also helps protect people who have fallen
unconscious.

To try this out for yourself, update to iOS 11 beta 6 and access the Medical ID
from the lockscreen. After dismissing the view, you will find that a passcode
is required to get back to your home screen. You can also press the lock button
five times to open the SOS/Medical ID/Shutdown slider page, which also performs
the same Touch ID lockdown.
The phone will only accept Touch ID again once a valid passcode has been
entered. Although by no means foolproof, the new feature is an added layer of
security for the owner's data. If the iPhone owner falls unconscious and a
bystander comes over to help, accessing the person's Medical ID will
automatically prevent the person from using the unconscious owner's fingerprint
to unlock the device against their will.
They can access the medical ID to help diagnose what might have caused the
incident, but they can no longer unlock the device by placing the person's hand
on the Touch ID sensor.
Obviously, an intelligent crook could unlock the unconscious person's device
before entering the Medical ID or SOS modes but Apple is betting on most people
being honest or the feature being enabled before the user loses consciousness.
If the device owner is having a seizure, they can activate the SOS screen
themselves to call their emergency contact with the knowledge that their device
will be secure if they do lose consciousness or control of their body.
Similarly, if the first responder is an honest citizen and instantly accesses
the Medical ID, the real owner of the phone will be secured if anyone else
(such as police at the hospital bedside, for instance) attempts to force access
by jamming their finger onto the fingerprint sensor.
With the upcoming 'Face ID' in iPhone 8, you can see how the same behavior
defends against unconscious unlocks with face biometrics too.
The feature may also prevent some people from being forced into giving their
data over to law enforcement; five presses of a physical button is faster and
easier than attempting to turn off your phone before it is snatched out of your
hand. The legal implications are a bit unclear; people have been jailed before
for refusing to give their fingerprints.
Again, this will help in some situations and not others. Still, your chances
are always higher than on a device running iOS 10.
iOS 11 should be released to the public sometime next month, alongside the new
iPhone launch.

RE: p cloud problems

2017-08-21 Thread Simon Fogarty
Hi Jean,

What about Mega Uploads or even google drive?

Do you know approximately what capacity of data you need to back up?

There is also another product we use at work called
Syncplicity
Syncplicity.com which has a free service I don't know what level of content
they have but it's a possible option and has a desktop client as well as web
interface.

But the most trustworthy service I think I could suggest would be Time Machine
but that would mean having an external drive to use for your backups

Hello All:

Hoping someone can help. In an attempt to find a backup service that doesn’t
take up space on my hard drive, I downloaded and installed p cloud. I put some
files into the p cloud drive but according to the web interface it is not
uploading those files. Now, whenever I land on p cloud in the finder it says p
cloud drive can’t be opened because the original item can’t be found. So then I
tried to uninstall p cloud and when I try to do this from the applications
folder I get an error message saying that the item p cloud drive can’t be moved

I can’t find anything useful in the context menu or anywhere else for that
matter. Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance,

The S8 has many reboot issues, freezing, the fingerprint censor is mounted
right next to the camera so you smudge your lens every time you authenticate,
the processor is slow, the Bixby feature isn’t that compelling other than good
internal phone control, and I could keep going. Mainly another lack luster at
best showing from Samsung. Some like the phone but I used it for a week and at
the end convinced work to send over 150 of them to the recycler my experience

RE: Apple MacBook Air (2017) review - CNET

2017-08-21 Thread Simon Fogarty
Hi Scott,

Yeah that's the first of the magic keyboards,

 I've got that one myself,

A lot nicer than the older mac wifi keyboar

But as I use a 9 litre back pack to carry around my notebook and associated
things, so chucking a small keyboard into my bag wouldn't add a lot especially
one of the magic keyboards,

Nah the magic keyboard is very streamline. I have a separate pocket in my
laptop bag where it fits nicely. Really like it because I can kick back in my
cube with my headphones on and feet up on my desk hahaha and not hold the
weight of the laptop. Also the key feel is quite good for a wireless keyboard.
It’s the size of the 15 inch MacBook Pro keyboard with function keys. It’s
not like carrying around one of the big Logitech deals.

RE: App to make the solar eclipse accessible

2017-08-21 Thread Simon Fogarty
Hi Donna,

Sorry to hear it’s been a bad weekend,

Yeah I’m finding it kind of funny from this end as it’s a 7 minute blackout
that’s happening coast to coast across the usa,
And everyone is making such a big thing out of it,

Yet if you can sset things up quickly enough NASA are streaming it so you could
copy that streem and have it for prosperity

New Zealand gets our next total eclipse in I think it’s 2028

But good luck tomorrow or in the morning in my case.

Approx. 7 hours till darkness falls in the middle of the day.

Hi Simon,

This is a very fun story about a small town in the U.S. that suddenly finds
itself in the limelight. As best i understand it, the longest duration of the
eclipse is in a small town in Illinois where many of my in-laws live, and where
my husband and I lived till this past April. Truth be told, this has been a
rough weekend. I'm sad I'm not there. The university is closed Monday, and
there are lots of parties that we would be attending if we still lived there.

Hi Janina,

Yes it was a story on our evening news tv show last night.

The town in Oregon that is the centre of the eclipse has a population of
approx. 6500 people but they are expecting 25 to arrive over the next day
or so to watch the eclipse

Simon,

Where I live just outside Washington, DC, it will approximately 80%.
It's full further west in the U.S. Hotels out west are full. People are
sleeping in their cars, I imagine!

I didn't know there was to be a solar eclipse this year?

So is it a full one for you folks in the northern hemisphere or only partial?

And besides I'm sure this type of thing happens every day, Or at least
night, I believe what happens is the earth gets in front of the sun so that the
side of the earth furtherest away from the sun is eclipsed from seeing it, and
it gets very dark on that furtherest away side.

Hi,

People living anywhere proximate to the coming solar eclipse might want to look
into a special app intended to help blind and visually impaired people
experience this upcoming celestial event:

ired.html

The app, Eclipse Soundscape, may well be available via Itunes Appstore.
I haven't checked, though.

Enjoy!

Janina
