 WWDC 2018: Hopes and Predictions

It's the biggest 4 letters of the year. WWDC starts Monday and we at
Accessibility Matters are excited for the big day. Well, I don't know
about Melissa, but I sure as heck am. Here are some predictions we, I mean
I am looking forward to seeing.

 Hopes

 1. Implementation Of The Siri Voices System Wide On macOS

Since iOS 9, Apple has made it possible to use the Siri voices for
Voiceover and other system wide features that use speech. In 2016, Apple
introduced macOS Sierra which brought the virtual assistant into the
Macintosh environment. However, access to the voices system wide wasn't
possible which is the case today. We on the Mac don't get the voices that
PC users do such as Neospeech, Ivona, or the now debunked Innoetics. For
3rd party TTS providers, we only get Nuance, Acapela, Cereproc or Cepstral
which I don't recommend anyone try unless they want to crash their
computer. So on Monday, I hope we can finally use the Siri voices system
wide. I'd love to use the new female voice on my Mac. I sometimes take a
break from her but I always gravitate back to her because she is the most
natural sounding female voice on the iPhone. A lot of blind people like
voices if they're responsive and while that's important to me as well, I
like my voices as human sounding

Re: DTMF entry during a FaceTime call

2018-06-06 Thread Brian Hansen
When placing a call on your Mac using FaceTime, once the call is connected to
your bank, or where ever you want to access an automated system, just hit
Shift-VO-Space when the call is connected, and you will be able to manually
enter in digits just as if you were using a regular phone.

Blessings,

Brian

Thank you – this is very useful to know. Of course, it doesn’t work if the
proper digit string to be entered isn’t known in advance.

Hi Jason,

What I have experienced is that dtmf tones cannot be generated once a call has
connected in facetime.

What I have had to do is enter the number I want to call, then insert commas to
create pauses in my dialing string until the system answers, then enter the
desired number to activate the feature.

So for example I enter the string tor a weather service I use, then enter 10
commas to paust until the system answers, then enter the correct digits to
activate the option I wish tu use.

Once the call is connected, I cannot use tones to go to other choices.
