You could try Prizmo. Prizmo will OCR the print or digital document, and place
each section into its own grouping in the page view.

Re: question re attaching docs in high Sierra

2018-07-06 Thread 'Jason White' via MacVisionaries
Do you get a different result if you use Command-Shift-a while composing the
mail message to attach the file instead of copy/paste?

Copy/paste does as you describe in Microsoft Outlook for Mac as well, but
attaching the file from within the mail composition editor gives the desired
result. I think it's the same in Apple Mail, though it's a while since I've
used it.

Re: My iPhone lost an hour

2018-07-06 Thread Mary Otten
Hi Les and all,
Yes, that automatic setting was on and has been on. I decided to turn it off
and just switch to Cupertino, which is the default time, since that’s where
Apple is and that’s where I am. Well I’m not in Cupertino, but I’m in their
times out. And it said itself back. Before doing that, I turned on location
services to see if that would help, since settings told me that having location
services on would help the accuracy. That didn’t help, so I resorted to turning
off automatic time setting. We’ll see what happens this fall when the time
changes.

First of all, I believe you said your keyboard selection was ISO which
is a very specialized keyboard listed under “other languages”. I am not
quite sure how it works. For those that have learned touch typing in the

option-e for accent acute and option i for accent circumflex the US
International keyboard. This makes the accent input more like on a PC

Have you looked at the character viewer in that menu? Might be
easier than having more than one keyboard. There's also an emoji

my preferred language. So this is where one can chnge the
language on the fly. Typically with just one language one can go
to the text input menu and bring up the character viewer and
select those oddball symbols so no need for extra keyboards if
one only needs to type in an occasional foreign language character.

As an aside I tested the option key and its fine. I am going to

This is not just a problem with blind individuals. I regularly have Lyft riders
drive past my house and turn left on the street beyond my house because their
navigation is confused in dividing the street up. I even got a lower cost then
predicted because Lyft claimed I got out before the ride was complete.

In some cases with Blind Square you can adjust the location of a point of
interest when they are based on address, so when you visit the place a second
time, GPS will be a bit more accurate. Blind Square also has an indicator at
the bottom middle that guesses at the accuracy of the GPS.

Donna,

First of all, I believe you said your keyboard selection was ISO which is a
very specialized keyboard listed under “other languages”. I am not quite sure
how it works. For those that have learned touch typing in the US but need to
input a bit of accented characters there is besides the option-e for accent

makes the accent input more like on a PC where you don’t need to use a two

Hello Sandi,
This is the second AfterShokz headset I’ve had but I don’t think this
particular model is still being made. However, there seem to be a couple of
wired versions still available with mic of course.
I find them really good for getting around Paris which is pretty noisy. My
hearing isn’t great anymore, so bone-conduction works well for me.
I also use them at home when my husband is working in the same room as me so as
not to drive him insane with VoiceOver, and he says he can’t hear anything from
them when I have the volume high enough for my own comfort.
Cheers,

Anne

That's good to know, Anne. I can well believe that I may have changed
something accidentally. Someday I may try it again.
Cheers,

Re: First steps into using iPhone for orientation

2018-07-06 Thread David Chittenden
Hello,

There are no GPS apps which will provide the degree of accuracy you are hoping
for. With a good GPS signal, the apps will get you to within a few shops of
where you wish to go. However, many factors, including how big are the
buildings around you, how clear is your view of the sky where the satelites
are, how sunny vs cloudy the sky, and so forth.

There is a free app called Be My Eyes which can help. When one gets to the GPS
announcement of arriving, one can use Be My Eyes, and ask the volunteer to
describe where you are. Be My Eyes uses the back camera on the phone so the
volunteer can see what the camera is looking at.

I do not use the bone induction headset. I do use Apple's Air Pods. I find that
one AirPod does not eclude my hearing too much, so I am still able to hear the
environmental sounds for orientation. There is an audio shadow, but I find it
workable.

Kind regards,
