Re: Accessibility of Google calendars on iPhones?

2018-07-30 Thread 'Alex Hall' via MacVisionaries
I discovered recently that Google lets you create a Google account, but not a
Gmail address if you'd rather use another one. I was helping a client sign up
with Google, and we were able to use the client's iCloud email to sign up. The
password was different from iCloud, of course, but the email was the same. I
imagine you could do the same with your work email, assuming that email isn't
already a Gmail address or one with a Google-managed domain, and use your
calendars that way. As others have said, you can add Google calendars to your
Calendar app, with no need for a new app at all. Mail, contacts, and notes
should be equally easy to add, should it be necessary.

Re: Accessible fitness watch that works seamlessly with the iPhone?

2018-07-30 Thread 'Alex Hall' via MacVisionaries
Your next decision is... Which one? The Series 2 is good, the Series 3 is
better and has the option of a cellular connection, and the Series 4 should
arrive this fall sometime. If you can wait, I'd suggest holding out for the
next generation. If you love it, great, you have the latest. If you're okay
with a Series 3 or 2 even with the 4 available, great, you can likely get one
at a discount.

Re: blood pressure cuff that is accessible on iPhone?

2018-07-30 Thread Kirsten hill
Hi Donna,
The monitor I use is an Omron series 10, upper arm BP 786. The iPhone app is
called Omron Wellness and it is VO friendly, not 100 percent perfect but very
usable. It connects via bluetooth and can be used by two people. You may need
sighted assistance for the initial user set up.

I purchased it at Walmart for under 100 dollars.

Best,
Kirsten

Selecting and copying text in the Kindle app for iOS

2018-07-30 Thread Mary Otten
It seems to me that there is a way to select and copy text within the Kindle
app. I’m pretty sure I tried it along time ago when it first became available,
but never really had any need for it. Now I’m wondering if it is usable, and I
can’t remember or find out what are the gestures. You can’t use voiceovers text
selection, just like you can’t in iBooks. Does anybody really think blind
people are going to copy out books and sell them? I wish that feature were
available everywhere. Anyway, how do you select and copy text?

Re: Dual SIM cards for the iPhone

2018-07-30 Thread Georges Zaynoun

Mike:

Some years ago, I was in Lebanon and bought a device called GoodTalk in
which I inserted the Lebanese sim-card and kept the Swedish in the
iPhone, it has an app which I downloaded then and I used it a while, it
doesn't do data just to inform, hope that puts you in the right direction.

Original message:

Hi everyone,

I live in Europe, but I will be visiting family, friends and research
colleagues in the US during October and November. Since I will need to
occasionally use my European SIM card while there, I will have to use
two different iPhones since I have no desire to constantly be taking

I recently learned that there might be an alternative to this approach.
There is apparently a BlueTooth device that lets a person insert two
different SIM cards and pair it with the iPhone. Has anyone ever used
such a device and if so, how well did it work? Since SIM cards are so
small, I am afraid that I could easily lose the device, and then I’d

Re: Accessibility of Google calendars on iPhones?

2018-07-30 Thread Michael Busboom
Thanks for the info, Tim. This is very helpful.

Although I have a Gmail account, it would not be the account I would want to
use for our joint calendar. It would be the email address I use for our
research, which isn’t Google. Would the calendar still work for me, as long as
I had a Gmail calendar app on my iPhone?

Thanks,

Mike

Dual SIM cards for the iPhone

2018-07-30 Thread Michael Busboom
Hi everyone,

I live in Europe, but I will be visiting family, friends and research
colleagues in the US during October and November. Since I will need to
occasionally use my European SIM card while there, I will have to use two
different iPhones since I have no desire to constantly be taking out and
re-inserting cards into one phone all the time.

I recently learned that there might be an alternative to this approach. There
is apparently a BlueTooth device that lets a person insert two different SIM
cards and pair it with the iPhone. Has anyone ever used such a device and if
so, how well did it work? Since SIM cards are so small, I am afraid that I

without a paddle.

Thank you very much,

I am part of a R group here in Austria. Within our group, some people use

As in you need to boot from a DVD of windows 7?
Or from the vm HD for the win 7 vm machine your running?

If first then under virtual machine menu you should find an option for optical
drive / dvd / cd rom
You'll have to select which one you require.

RE: Accessible fitness watch that works seamlessly with the iPhone?

2018-07-30 Thread Simon Fogarty
yeah two choices,

the fitbit range of devices have the sensors to pick up what your doing with
your exercise and relay it to you through your iphone and the fitbit app.

You'd have to check on which ones do what these days as I've lost track.
There used to be a Charge HR which did most of what you want.

The second option and the one I use when walking or cycling is the apple watch.

It even has tracking settings for cycling be it in doors or outdoors on a
cycle / on the roads.

And both the watch itself will tell you the details of your training / cycling
or your phone can give it to you also.

Without a doubt the watch would be my first choice and first recommendation to
you.
The benefit over the fitbit is the watch has voiceover so can talk to you with
out the phone
Fitbit only has the phone to relay what your doing or have done.

Hope that helps.

Subject: Accessible fitness watch that works seamlessly with the iPhone?

Hello everyone,

My wife, who is sighted, are really into tandem cycling, and I do a lot of
hiking as well.

My wife has a FitBit watch that keeps track of all manner of things such as
heart rate, distance biked, calories burned, and the list goes on. I am
looking for a watch that monitors my activities in a similar way and obviously,
I’d like to pair it with my iPhone. I know that the Apple Watch would be
available, but I’ve never heard of people talking about how it monitors
physical activities, like the FitBit products do. Does anyone know of a watch
that would pair with my iPhone and allow me to access that info through the
Bluetooth interface?

Many thanks,

Mike

I would like to thank all of you for your instructive feedback. Though I will
most likely go with the AppleWatch, I will also consider the FitBit band,
though with less enthusiasm than before.

Thanks so much, all of you!

Re: Tables, Tables, Tables!

2018-07-30 Thread Anne Robertson
Hello Kat,

TextEdit is hopeless with tables, but Pages should be fine. If focus is jumping
around, make sure that your mouse pointer is set to ignore the other cursors.
We go into quite a lot of detail about tables in our book on Pages so that
would be a good place to look for more information.
Cheers,

Anne
