What About SquareSpace? I heard that was the easiest way to build a website.
Now I don't really know how accessible it is, but thought I'd throw it out
there.

This is good advice. I’m just wondering why he should use Network Solutions
for the domain? Most web hosting companies such as Green Geeks or Dream Host
include 1 domain in their web hosting plans. Why not just use that since he
will need to pay for web hosting any way?

RE: An accessible place to create my Website

2018-08-25 Thread M. Taylor
Hello Ramy,

Like so many things on the web, website creation is a highly personal affair.

I have no idea as to how you want your website to look or to function; nor do I
know how much backend knowledge you already possess.

Having said this, were I you, I would consider using WordPress as my website
platform on a hosted sight. A lot of people think of WordPress as a blogging
tool but it also makes a fabulous dynamic website interface, as well.

Here are the three broad strokes you may consider following:

1.
Reserve a domain name. If you have already done this, great. If not, then I
suggest that you use Network Solutions as your domain registrar. Do not use
them for anything other than domain registration as their rates tend to be a
bit higher than other web hosting companies.

2.
Find a company to host your website. Depending on your needs you can get web
hosting for as little as $6 a month or as high as $70 per month. Compare
various companies such as web.com, tigertech.com, etc.

3.
Either create or install a website interface. All of the major web hosting
companies will offer software, at no charge, to install on your account/site.
In many cases, this is done by clicking a series of buttons and answering
several general questions. This is where you will install WordPress, should
you wish to do so. Don't worry, if you don't like it, you can always uninstall
it.

Finally, be certain to take your time in determining what path you will follow
because once you invest time and money into your decision, it can be quite
challenging in switching, down the road.

Good luck,

Mark

Re: An accessible place to create my Website

2018-08-25 Thread 'Jason White' via MacVisionaries
If you're comfortable setting up a Linux system, you can buy a virtual machine
from a provider such as linode.com, install Apache or Nginx, and use your
preferred text editor to write the HTML for your web site directly. There are
also tools that can generate the HTML for you from Markdown or similar formats
that may be easier to edit.

If you don't know how to configure a Linux system and how to use the command
line, and if you're not in a position to read a book or two, experiment, and
learn it - then there may still be accessible solutions around, but I'm not the
right person to advise on those.

Hello Phil,

The shift key was only added in High Sierra, so if you still use Sierra as I
do, you don’t need the shift key. Also, the VoiceOver voice is not the system
voice. You change the system voice in System Preferences.
