RE: Please Join Me in Requesting that a Small but Significant Bug be Resolved in the Latest Release of the Starbucks App

2018-09-26 Thread M. Taylor
Hello Sarai,

That's very interesting.

I did not mean to imply that one could not read the balance of one's card from
within the app. What I meant to say is that when one touches the "Pay With"
button, the amount is not spoken.

So the first step is to make certain that the Home Tab, located near the lower
left corner of the display is selected. Then, touch the "Pay With" button
which is located just above the lower right corner of the display.

I have rewards on my account, including a free reward.

Earlier today, I spent some time with several friends all of whom use the
Starbucks app; so I tested this on 1 iPhone 7, 1 6 S, and 1 6, in addition to
my own 8 Plus and the results were consistent across all four devices. By the
way, all of these devices use the Samantha Enhanced, TTS.

When you get a chance, please do the following:

1.
Make certain that the app is closed out of the app switcher.

2.
Check for updates, just to be certain that you have the latest version.

3.
Now start the app and make certain that the Home tab, located near the lower
left corner of the display is selected.

4.
Finally, using explore-by-touch, place VoiceOver focus on the "Pay With"
button, located just above the lower right corner of the display, and simply
touch it. Do not single-finger double-tap it. In all of my tests, VoiceOver
simply says, "Pay with current balance."

Thank you,

Mark

Donna it is quite an awesome watch, and for you I am sure it's going

Re: handbrake Question

2018-09-26 Thread Barry Hadder
Yes you can, but there are a few steps to set everything up.
First, download an application called makemkv. It cost $50, but is free while
in beta. The GUI is not accessible, but can easily be used from the command
line. Whether or not you actually use it however, you need it in order to
access it’s library file.
After it is installed, you need to create two symbolic links in /usr/local/lib.
That is a path you can only access in the terminal. If you don’t feel
comfortable with doing this, you might want to get help from someone. Type the
following in terminal:
ln -s /Applications/MakeMKV/Contents/lib/libmmbd.dylib
/usr/local/lib/libaacs.dylib
ln -s /Applications/MakeMKV/Contents/lib/libmmbd.dylib
/usr/local/lib/libbdplus.dylib

MakeMKV also requires a key for continuous use. You get the key from:
https://www.makemkv.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1053
.
He posts a new key every few months. You can get someone sited to enter the
key, but you can also edit the ~/Library/MakeMKV/settings.conf file and type
app_Key = “”.

Now you can play blue rays with vlc or any other player that knows how to read
them, or rip with handbreak to an ATV compatible format.
For DVD’s you need the libdvdcss package. Sense you have MakeMKV however, you
can just create another symbolic link as above but with the name
libdvdcss.2.dylib.

Focus 5 generation with I phone.

2018-09-26 Thread 'Kawal Gucukoglu' via MacVisionaries
Hello.

I think someone had problems connecting their Braille Focus 5th gen to their I
phone? I called Apple accessibility and they told me to check if there was an
update to the Focus software. I have updated the focus which is now working
with the Iphone IOS 12.

Apple Watch Series 4 review: A bigger, better watchOS experience, Ars Technica

Because of all of the images and embedded tables, this was a particularly
challenging article to format for this post. Consequently, I had to remove
the specs comparison table and additional reading references. In order to

Apple Watch Series 4 review: A bigger, better watchOS experience
A $399 starting price is a lot to ask, but Apple added a lot to this Watch.
by Valentina Palladino, Sep 26, 2018 5:00am PDT

The fourth iteration of the Apple Watch still looks like a tiny iPhone on
your wrist, but for many, it was the most exciting device announced at
Apple's event earlier this month. A larger screen, faster performance with
improved sensors, fall detection, and ECG readings are just a few of the
features that inspired quick interest in the Apple Watch Series 4. The steps
forward in health monitoring alone point to a new era for Apple's wearable,
and users who could benefit most from them have a compelling reason to shell
out $399 or more for the Series 4.

Otherwise, the Series 4 is an amalgamation of small improvements that make a
big difference in the Apple Watch experience. These improvements will
attract new users to the Watch who have been waiting for a device that's up
to their personal standards, and they will make existing Watch wearers
question their happiness with the smartwatch currently on their wrists. But
while the Series 4 represents the first major redesign of the Apple Watch
since its birth, that alone doesn't make it an automatic upgrade for all
Apple Watch users.

The hardware
Models and pricing

The Apple Watch Series 4 comes in two sizes—40mm and 44mm—and as either a
GPS-only device or a GPS-and-cellular device. The 40mm, GPS-only Series 4
Watch with an aluminum case starts at $399, and the GPS-and-cellular Watch
of the same size starts at $499. The 44mm, GPS-only model starts at $429,
and adding cellular ups the starting price to $529. Stainless steel cases
are only available with GPS and cellular capabilities: a 40mm Watch costs
$699 while a 44mm Watch costs $749.

All models come standard with either a sport band or a sport loop band. The
special edition Nike+ Watches have exclusive Nike sport bands, but the bands
don't affect the prices of those models. A few GPS-and-cellular,
stainless-steel Watches come with the premium Milanese loop bands, and they
cost $799 and $849 for the 40mm and 44mm sizes, respectively.

Those who have bands from old Apple Watches are in luck—all old bands will
fit on the new sizes. Prices for additional bands haven't changed: a sport
band costs $49, while a Milanese loop (as well as special leather bands)
costs $149.

The Series 4 comes in an Hermés collaboration edition just like previous
Apple Watches. These luxury devices start at $1,249 for a 44mm stainless
steel model with a single leather band.

Let's talk about that new screen: first, it's the main reason the Series 4
comes in new case sizes. The amount of screen area is larger on this new
Watch, and it will tempt many to eschew their Series 3 and Series 2 Watches
entirely. After wearing a Series 3 for a year, the Series 4's screen is a
welcome change I didn't know I wanted—complications are bigger and easier to
tap, photos have more detail, and graphics are bold and take on new life
thanks to the extra space in which they can live. It's an in-your-face
change, even if the information on the Apple Watch's screen hasn't changed
much at all.

The edges of the screen are rounded now instead of sharp, but the bezels are
particularly noticeable when using certain watch faces. The new fire
animation only roars within the confines of the 759-square-mm screen area on
my 40mm Watch, leaving clear strips of black on all four sides.

It's impossible for the naked eye to tell, but the Series 4 display panels
use different technology than those on Series 3 Watches. The new LTPO
(Low-Temperature Polycrystalline Oxide) panels combine low-temperature
polysilicon thin-film transistor technology (LTPS-TFT) and Indium Gallium
Zinc Oxide technology (IGZO, or Oxide TFT) into one display. This means the
result is the best of both worlds. Essentially, LTPO tech produces a
high-quality OLED display that consumes less power.

The main way Apple's LTPO displays drain less power is through dynamically
adjusting refresh rates. Depending on the content on the screen, the
internal tech will automatically adjust the refresh rate—an animation with
all its necessary vibrancy and life may require 60Hz, but a static image may
only need 30Hz to look lovely.

The new display looks just as good as the old display, and most will notice
its increased size more than anything else about it. LTPO's biggest gains
come in battery life, but Apple still expects the Series 4 to get roughly
the same amount of alive time as the Series 3—up to 18

No. But so what? What matters to a company at the end of the day is the bottom

Hello Anders,

Well, it's been quite some time since I last held the Samsung Mega and you must
remember that, at that time, iPhone 5 S was the latest Apple device on the
market. Relative to that, I would say that the Mega was about the size of an
old 8 track tape or, as another list member suggested, a little larger than an
old VHS video cartridge; much thinner, of course. It was huge!!! (smile) Ah,
the memories. (smile).

Just curious to know what the form factor was of the samsung mega?
I didn’t understand that quite clear.
My intention is not to buy me a new Iphone since i am very happy with my Iphone

But i am interested any how.

Hello Everyone,

Let me just say that the following is just my opinion and it is not
intended to persuade or dissuade anyone of anything.

Yesterday, I went to a remote Best Buy retail store where, as I
expected, there were almost no customers.

The Apple section was completely deserted except for one very
enthusiastic Apple representative.

Although I had not fully recognized it myself, some part of me really
wanted to be wowed by the 10 S Max in terms of its 6.5 inch display
size. As you may recall, I have often stated that I am not ready for
Face ID yet, I discovered that I was somewhat open to purchasing a 10
S Max if it could wow me, enough.

Five years or so ago, I had a friend who owned one of the first modern
phablets, the Samsun Mega. I believe the screen size was 6.3 inches.
Its physical size was so large that every time I used it, I felt as
though I was a little kid playing with a grown-up's device. I just
couldn't stop grinning, every time I held it in my hand.

It was huge Yet, despite its size, I really, really liked it. It
felt, just as the term phablet implies, like a cross between a phone
and a tablet computer.

Believe it or not, I found myself finding ways to spend more time with
my friend just so I could play with that Samsung Mega. (smile)

I almost bought one for myself but, at that time, I just didn't like
Android enough to make the investment. Soon after, Samsung stopped making the
Mega.

So, yesterday, as I entered the Apple section of the store, I suppose,
on some subconscious level, I was hoping to see that same huge
form-factor on the 10 S Max. It didn't happen. In fact, believe it
or not, the actual body, or form-factor of the 10 S Max is almost identical to
my 8 Plus.

I was so disappointed. I was so disappointed, in fact, that the Apple
sales rep thought that I had taken ill and asked if I needed medical attention.

Now I know that Apple made it clear as to the physical dimensions of
the 10 S Max but, somehow, some way, I thought the form-factor would
be larger, much larger than my beloved 8 Plus. In fact, I suppose, I
was counting on it.

The sales rep, a very nice young man, began his spiel about how much
better the display is and how much faster the 10 S Max is, and blah, blah,
blah!.

All I know is that,

Voiceover navigating bluetooth keyboard

2018-09-26 Thread Traci Duncan
Hi all, I have chose a bluetooth keyboard and currently trying it out. I have a
few VO questions.

Mostly I’m wondering if it is a Voiceover thing or the hardware keyboard.
Navigating with control-option-command is not responsive most of the time.

Quick-nav seems to come on and off frequently. Is there a rotor setting for
quick-nav?

Is there a way to force the onscreen keyboard to appear?

Lastly, how do I get to the top of the screen with the keyboard?

Thank you,
Traci
PS. I must say, I love typing this way. It is faster for me than even my
braille display.

(smile).

Hi!
Thanks for this one Mark.
Just curious to know what the form factor was of the samsung mega?
I didn’t understand that quite clear.
My intention is not to buy me a new Iphone since i am very happy with my Iphone
SE and my Nokia 8.
But i am interested any how.

I'm using bootcamp on a mac mini at work everyday and it's stable as a straight

Can't see problems within it.

Or just simply use virtual box,

I think it's lacking quality like fusion but it's useable so long as you get
assistance setting up the initial vm.

Hi. I run windows ten 64 bit via bootcamp and have had very little trouble. Why
not give that a shot? Also, remember that when you're running a virtual
machine, it is splitting resources with both operating systems. If you boot
into one OS at a time, you don't have this issue.

RE: Mark on iPhone 10 S Max and iWatch Series 4, Form-Factor

2018-09-26 Thread Simon Fogarty
I'mpretty sure they're only thinking of money money money!

The company use to make excelant products,
They now make good products,

I personally think they have lost their way slightly but I also think they
need to drop prices to bring things back into the real world,

They don't need to make money like they use to.
They're already worth trillions
