clicking buttons on my Mac

2023-12-03 Thread Lorie McCloud
I’ve been having trouble clicking buttons on websites using Safari on my new
Mac. I can have the button in focus. I even press vo-command-f5 to make sure
I’m really there but I try to. click it and nothing happens. I click using
vo-space as I always have. what setting might I need to check in the vo utility
to facilitate this action? I’ve tried it on a couple of sites sith no luck so I
don’t think it’s just that one site.

thanks.
Lorie

Re: Old dinosaur looking to upgrade

2023-12-03 Thread Phil Halton
Well, I decided on the MacBook Pro with M3 and a 16 GB memory upgrade. But then I noticed that I couldn’t get it for 2 1/2 weeks whereas the base models were all available that day. So, I made an emotional decision and upgraded to the MacBook Pro with M3 Pro which has 18 gig unified ram. Yes, I went ahead and made an emotional decision and bought because I wanted it that day. Anyway, it’s a great machine probably more than I need, but that’s OK too. I do do some sound processing and I just like the MacBook Pro over the air. So far I’m pretty happy with it I finally got everything installed the way I like it and it’s gonna be a great machine I can tell. Sent from my IPhoneOn Dec 3, 2023, at 6:37 PM, Jonathan Cohn wrote:Well, I implied the M2 vs M3 debate.Right now only Mac Book Pros have the M3 series of chips, the AIR  still come with M2.The MacBookPro do have a display that is twice as bright if you have vision that can take advantage of that. All of the MacBooks’s power buttons double as touch ID, so if you have enough dexterity to use the power button then you shouldn’t need to have touch ID on the keyboard. That being said, if you are not traveling with the computer then getting a MacMini might be a good idea. Re: Old dinosaur looking to upgrade

2023-12-03 Thread Jonathan Cohn
Well, I implied the M2 vs M3 debate.
Right now only Mac Book Pros have the M3 series of chips, the AIR still come
with M2.
The MacBookPro do have a display that is twice as bright if you have vision
that can take advantage of that.

All of the MacBooks’s power buttons double as touch ID, so if you have enough
dexterity to use the power button then you shouldn’t need to have touch ID on
the keyboard.
That being said, if you are not traveling with the computer then getting a
MacMini might be a good idea. You can hook up a very inexpensive display or the
Studio display and get as powerful a system without paying for a keyboard
and/or display that you don’t plan to use.

Generally, unless you manage what’s is open on your system, having more shared
memory will be more important than additional cores which is what the M3 is
giving you.
If you are doing sound processing or visual processing then you might need the
extra processing of the M3. If you are doing eMail and Web browsing or small
business accounting, I would expect putting the cost difference between a AIR
with M2 and a Pro with M3 would better be placed in shared memory or additional
storage.

Best wishes,

Jonathan Cohn

Re: Getting VoiceOver TTS into Zoom calls

This is true, however if VO output is routed somewhere other than the system
default, it will not be heard through screen share.

If I remember rightly, when you enable screen sharing, there's an option
(typically a check box) to share system audio as well. If this is not enabled,
only video is shared.

The last time I played with Rogue Amoeba software, the installer wanted
permission to overwrite part of Apple's kernel space. Assuming even that
there may be no malware involved, it still seems a risky thing to do
just from a functionality perspective relating to other applications.

A Question for Focus 40 Blue 5th Generation Braille Display Users

2023-12-03 Thread M. Taylor
Hello All,

I tried searching the archives but cannot seem to locate any recent threads
on the following question:

A couple of days ago I purchased a new Focus 40 Blue 5th Gen braille Display
from Freedom Scientific. What a marvelous device. It works like a champ on
both the latest version of Windows (with the latest release of Fusion) as
well as my beloved Windows 7 PC which is running Jaws v15 (The Win7 PC is
not connected to the Internet).

I seem to recall that some iOS and/or Mac OS users reported that there was
some kind of unexpected glitch with the 5th gen braille displays when
connecting to iOS and / or Mac OS but I cannot remember what the glitch was
and in which OS it occurred and if the glitch had been resolved in a
subsequent version of the OS.

I am going to setup the display with my beloved 14 running the latest
version of iOS 16 but wanted to check here, first, to see if there are any
issues of which I should be aware, be fore I start the process.

All replies greatly appreciated.

Mark
