I’m by no means suggesting I would consider the app usable, unless you are willing to go through all of these hoops.

Typing on the device for me is excellent and aside from checking battery status I don’t use the app regularly.

Windows does have an app, and yes it is not accessible on the Mac, I had to get sited help. It’s nice though, cause you can set up keys to open up folders or do keyboard commands.

Hi Mervin,

So you don’t use the app at all?  I ask because it looks like the only way to disable backlighting on the keyboard is in the Logitech app, and it looks like doing that significantly extends battery life.  That would be really convenient for me since I’ll be
 traveling.

Logitech sells A Mac only version of the MX keyboard. If this is the one you have then you have the one I am currently using. And it is totally accessible. In fact I like it better than the one I am using on my windows 11 Pro machine which is for both Mac and
windows. When using it on windows 11 Pro there are a couple of keys that do nothing. And windows keeps trying to install a Logitech app that is 0% accessible. And the only way I know it is even trying to install it is because my 32GB i7 Carbon X1 Extreme starts
revving up like it is ready to take off on a runway.
The Mac version gives me no issues and does not try to install anything. And works great. I use the Mac Only Logitech MX on my M1 MacBook Pro but since it allows me to connect up to 3 devices I also have my iPhone 14 Pro Max paired with it as well. It works
great with my iPhone as well.

Re: Anyone using a Logitech MX keyboard for Mac?

2024-05-12 Thread 'Donna Goodin' via MacVisionaries
That’s too bad. But thanks for letting me know. Do you happen to know if
there’s an alternate way to disable backlighting on the keyboard? I haven’t
found one, but I only got the keyboard this afternoon.

I agree with you and Mervin re the keyboard. It’s very comfortable to use, and
so far seems pretty intuitive.
Cheers,
Donna

Re: Anyone using a Logitech MX keyboard for Mac?

2024-05-12 Thread 'Donna Goodin' via MacVisionaries
Hi Mervin,

So you don’t use the app at all? I ask because it looks like the only way to
disable backlighting on the keyboard is in the Logitech app, and it looks like
doing that significantly extends battery life. That would be really convenient
for me since I’ll be traveling.
Cheers,
Donna

Re: Anyone using a Logitech MX keyboard for Mac?

2024-05-12 Thread Mervin Keck III
Logitech sells A Mac only version of the MX keyboard. If this is the one you
have then you have the one I am currently using. And it is totally accessible.
In fact I like it better than the one I am using on my windows 11 Pro machine
which is for both Mac and windows. When using it on windows 11 Pro there are a
couple of keys that do nothing. And windows keeps trying to install a Logitech
app that is 0% accessible. And the only way I know it is even trying to install
it is because my 32GB i7 Carbon X1 Extreme starts revving up like it is ready
to take off on a runway.
The Mac version gives me no issues and does not try to install anything. And
works great. I use the Mac Only Logitech MX on my M1 MacBook Pro but since it
allows me to connect up to 3 devices I also have my iPhone 14 Pro Max paired
with it as well. It works great with my iPhone as well.

Re: Browsing Time Machine

2024-05-12 Thread Ian Robinson
Hi Dave,

My Time Machine backup is encrypted. Hence, when I attach the drive to the
computer, a system dialogue pops up asking for the password. Once entered,
there is a few seconds delay then the Seagate drive shows up on the Desktop.
After that, I can browse the drive like any other drive; no other steps are
needed.

Re: Browsing Time Machine

2024-05-12 Thread Dave Carlson
Ian,

That may work, but I think first you need to select the backup file and open
the image mounter to get it added to the desktop.

After pressing Command+o on the drive, there was a list of folders named with
the date of the various backups, with the newest at the bottom of the list.
Within each of the folders there was a Data folder.
The contents of the Data folder is the same as the SSD of the MacBook. I could
navigate to my user folder and open Documents, Downloads, etc. I didn’t
actually try copying anything from the backup at the time.

Re: Browsing Time Machine

2024-05-12 Thread Dave Carlson
E.T.

Here’s a text file I copied a few years back. Process seems a bit squirrely but
I think I’ve managed to use it a couple times.

Restore a File Using Time Machine

Position on desired folder
Extras menu, Time Machine
Enter Time Machine; wait until finished
Control-Option F1
Finder in Time Machine
Control-Option F2 Twice (or for me, Opt-W) for window chooser
Arrow down to Time Machine Controls
Press Enter
Gives a most recent date
Control-Option LeftArrow
Brings up Timeline
Control-Option DownArrow
Find a backup date of interest
Ctrl-Option J to Jump to list
Arrow to find desired file
Ctrl-Opt F2 twice (Opt-w) to window list to find Time Machine Controls
Ctrl-Opt UpArrow to dismiss backup list
Ctrl-Option Right arrow to Restore button

Re: Browsing Time Machine

2024-05-12 Thread Jonathan Cohn
I have never been completely sure of the official way of doing this.
I do remember some discussion though.
1. Find the timeline areea by stop interacting and then going to the next
item .
2. The backup selection is a slider that can be navigated several ways.
ONce you find the date, then go back to your main finder area and find the
folder.

How you actually recover a selected folder or item, I am not 100 sure, but
I would expect a either the file menu or the contextual menu should have a
selector for this.

BTW did you know there is now a universal Apple URL for all documentation
that includes historic items?
