Re: Amadeus Pro Question

2020-09-03 Thread 'Dan' via MacVisionaries
Hello Janet,
It works, but wow! I guess I'll go back to using Studio Recorder in
Windows. After all you can copy and paste like you do in word processing and
nothing really complex to do. And I don't really need multi track recording for
the kind of recordings I make.
Even though Studio Recorder is a rather old application it does all I want it
to do and then some.

I wish it would have been ported to the mac os.
Again, thanks.

Hi Janet,
Actually, all I want to do is to insert in the middle of the file an additional
sentence. At this point it is just a single track file.

Hi,
Well, as the subject says. I am looking for a list of all the keyboard commands
for using Zoom with VoiceOver on my mac.
Does anyone know of, or have a list of these commands?
Thanks.

Re: Mac Mini Builtin Speaker

2020-03-24 Thread 'Dan' via MacVisionaries
Hi,
I also have a 2018 year mac mini and I love it.
As far as the speaker, at first when I got it, it was kind of crackely. Then
after a software pdate, the problem went away.
I also have installed windows 10 onn it. In windows, the speaker really
stuttered. But I read that that was also a problem with windows.
So I got a usb external sound card for about 9 bucks or so. It works really
great either i n windows or mac. The speaker problem in windows has been
corrected at some point over the last year or so.
Back to the internal speaker.
It is in the back, the sound comes out just below the connections.
As far as I'm concerned, If for some reason I needed another mac, it would be
another mac mini.

HTH.

Hi,
That's good to know. I was quite shure that it would work, but just wanted to
ask.
I'll probably get the pixel 4 a when it comes out in a few months.
BTW, I like your youtube demos of android.

Re: i'm having problems updating my MacBook Pro retina 2014 that's mid2014 to Catalina

2020-01-13 Thread 'Dan' via MacVisionaries
hello list and everyone who's help.

well, here's the outcome of my situation.

I did contact Apple today. We went through several procedures and I wasn't able
to update to Catalina. however, Mojave is still on the system now.

Apple suspects there is something wrong internally in my computer because they
stated that it should upgrade to Catalina with no problems.

Even when Apple was helping me, they got the same error that I got in that the
system was not properly configured.

The suggestion is that I should take it to an Apple store and have it looked at
to see what's wrong with it.

However I decided not to do that, because I don't wanna spend any additional
money on this computer. For the more because we don't drive we have to get
somebody to take us to a store.

They however did not mention about sending us a box to send it in so at this
point I'm gonna leave it at that.

Thanks everybody for helping.

Re: i'm having problems updating my MacBook Pro retina 2014 that's mid2014 to Catalina

2020-01-12 Thread 'Dan' via MacVisionaries
hello list,

So what I have is Yosemite 10.10.5.

I log into the App Store downloaded Catalina, but I am unable to install it.

Reason it says my system is not configured properly. And by the way I couldn't
read this with voiceover somebody sided had to tell me this.

So it tells me my system is configured properly but it doesn't tell me how to
configure it or where to go to get the information to configure it.

So it looks like I'm probably stuck with Yosemite on this machine.

Any more suggestions.

And by the way guys I appreciate everyone's help.

Re: i'm having problems updating my MacBook Pro retina 2014 that's mid2014 to Catalina

2020-01-12 Thread 'Dan' via MacVisionaries
Hello Mark and list,

Thanks.
Now, I need to reformat the SSD, because I really messed it up.
How do I get a complete download on-line.

If I restart the MBP with one of the other options such as Command Option r,
will this allow me to get a new OS? I asked, because I read some stuff on Apple
and when I followed the instructions, I wound up with Os 10.10.
I suppose I need to talk with Apple. The closest store is 100 miles away and
neither of us drive.
I'd also be willing to discuss this with some one over the phone if any one is
interested in directing me.
I've never messed up a SSD like I did this time.
The other thing is this. I really don't want to put a lot of money into this,
because the battery is starting to go. But it would really be nice if I could
keep it running a while longer.
Later.

2020-01-11 Thread 'Dan' via MacVisionaries
hello list,

As the subject says, I'm having problems updating my MacBook Pro mid 2014 to
Catalina.

first off, I downloaded the Catalina update and when I tried to run it it
wouldn't let me run it and said my machine wasn't configured properly.

secondly, I did attempted to do a clean install. With the eight PFS volume said
I still was unable to upgrade the only thing it would do was install Mojave it
would not let me install Catalina.

does anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks a bunch.

hello,

It was $30 approximately for the set. Actually 29 something plus tax.

if you go to Amazon.com and type in the following number it will get you
directly to the speakers

Re: Good Quality Speakers for the Mac Mini

2019-06-11 Thread 'Dan' via MacVisionaries
hello,

Well, they will be here tomorrow. Guess I'll find out how they sound to me. Of
course I understand it's totally subjective and of course that's where it
should be.

And thank you so much I really appreciate it.

Re: Good Quality Speakers for the Mac Mini

2019-06-11 Thread 'Dan' via MacVisionaries
hello,

after looking around a while I found the following speaker system and I ordered
it.

R19U is equipped with Edifier's latest 2.75” full-range speaker unit,

these are bookshelf speakers.

USB powered and USB audio supplied.

it has a jack and a complementary 3.5 mm male to male cord for other audio
devices to play into the speakers. if anybody's interested I ordered this from
Amazon.

It should be here tomorrow.

they cost around $30 US. so the reason I got these was because the USB
connection supplies both power to the speakers and has the sound card for X
ternal audio.

Thus only using one connection.

Will be interesting to see how these things work, I sure hope they do a good
job.

Re: Good Quality Speakers for the Mac Mini

2019-06-10 Thread 'Dan' via MacVisionaries
Hello,
I'm also looking for good quality speakers for the mac mini.
I am attempting to find USB speakers. Not just USB powered, but also using the
USB connection for audio as well, not the 3.5 MM jack.
I have found external sound cards. I've also found many USB powered speakers
but they still use the 3.5 MM jack for the audio. Not what I want.
I'm still looking.
Any suggestions?

2019-05-22 Thread 'Dan' via MacVisionaries
hi,

Thanks a lot for that information I certainly appreciate it.

I guess the remaining question is about FileVault. Of course I would turn
FileVault off before doing the windows install. However at a later point can I
turn FileVault back on for OS 10?

Thank you

hello,

Thanks for that information. It's certainly worth knowing. I will be installing
windows on a 2018 Mac mini and perhaps I will use a VM I'm not sure yet.

Guess there's a lot to consider.
just out of curiosity, and this is a general question to anyone. Is there
anywhere I can get complete instructions up-to-date instructions on how to
install VMware and windows 10.

Thanks in advance.

Ah now that is interesting. What screen-reader(s) do you have on your
 Windows?
I am incidentally totally new to Mac OS and all my knowledge comes
from articles and anecdotes from forums like this..

Re: Magic keyboard for mac

2019-05-06 Thread 'Dan' via MacVisionaries
hello, yes Apple is still making magic keyboard with the number pad. You can
get either with the number pad or without the number pad.

I love this keyboard it works very well I've never had any problems with it it
has extremely long battery life.

I really see nothing negative as far as I'm concerned about this keyboard, but
that's just me.

USBC Audio Interface suggestions for Mac Mini

2019-05-02 Thread 'Dan' via MacVisionaries
Hello list,
Because the Mac mini doesn't have any audio inputs, here is a question.
I'm looking for a general purpose microphone and line in device for a USBC port
on my mac mini.
Also, I will probably be installing windows 10 also. So this device should be
able to work with either mac or windows.
So let me further explain.
I want a device for a USBC port that has a few microphone inputs as well as a
few line in connections.
Any suggestions or recommendations?
Thanks in advance.

Hi,
The normal stuff, word processing, web browsing, email and the like.
As well as some audio production.
So, I want to get the most I can for as little as possible and still have a
fairly good system.
I don't want to break the bank either.
I am increasingly of the opinion that Apple products are greatly over priced
and that's after many years of using apple products.

Hi,
What is the VO problem with this system?
In all probability, at some point, I probably will run windows under bootcamp.

Considering a new mac mini.

2019-04-24 Thread 'Dan' via MacVisionaries
Hello list,
I'm thinking about purchasing a new mac mini.
So here are a few questions.

Out of the box with its basic configuration. What do you guys think of this
machine?

If I were to upgrade, I'd probably go with a 256 GB SSD. And perhaps also
upgrading to the max processor for this unit. Should I increase memory to at
least 16 GB or is that even necessary?

The idea here is to get the best bang for the lowest price without any major
compromises.

Again, what do you guys think of this approach? In general what comments do you
have regarding the mac mini.

TIA.

Dan

Between ExpressVpn and NordVpn, which offers the most complete VO accessibility

Another question regarding VPNs

2019-03-26 Thread 'Dan' via MacVisionaries
Hello,
We will be traveling here in the us. I need a VPN for iOS devices as well as my
MBP.
I am considering both Express VPN and NordVpn.
Whitch of these are completely accessible for VO users on both platforms
mentioned above?
Whitch do you prefer and why.
Of course these are subjective questions, but never the less, I'm really
interested.

Plugging a Bose headset with a 3.5 mm plug into the jack on the side of the

Re: Windows 10 install on MacBookAir 2013

2019-03-03 Thread 'Dan' via MacVisionaries
Hi Simon,

Headphones connected directly to the Mac should work just fine. I did this on a
MBP mid 2014 and it worked just fine. You will also need a usb drive as well
for these older machines.
After the boot camp part of the install switches over to the windows installer,
and after about half a minute or so, you can activate narrator and away you go.

Re: Removing Bootcamp Windows From My MacBook Air

2019-01-18 Thread 'Dan' via MacVisionaries
Hello,
I wanted to remove my bootcamp partition and I had the same thing.
So, this is what I did.

Before I get started with this procedure, please make certain you know what you
are doing. Also, I'm just relaying my experience and cannot guarantee that this
will work for you. But it should.
Shutdown the computer.
Reboot using command r.
After a while, I started VO with command f5.
After vo started, I selected disk utilities and hit continue.
Open disk utilities and selected erase.
Selected ssd and formatted it as APFS.
After the system erased, I exited disk utilities.
Back in the apps table, I selected reinstall.
Followed the prompts and set the machine up with a clean install.
Here's a point to keep in mind.
I noticed this problem after several windows updates. It's as if Windows took
over the ssd.
Even though I could still boot in either bootcamp/windows or Mac OS. Still at
some point I was no longer able to remove the bootcamp partition using the
bootcamp utility in OS 10.14.2.
Just my experiences so far with this situation.

Sincerely,

Dan

Hello,
The speakers will not work till Windows is in the final setup faze, where you
enter your account name and the like.
Yes, you can connect headphones directly to the 3.5 jack.
After windows takes over from boot camp, after several minutes, just activate
narrator with control command on a mac keyboard or control and windows key on a
windows keyboard.

That's what I thought but wanted to be sure.
Ok, here goes.
It's all about the correct iso. I was using the latest iso, the october
release. Even though I thought about running the April iso, I didn't My
reasoning was that narrator was improved after the April iso.
Any way, I spoke with someone at apple accessibility and they looked through
many different articles and finally found some info regarding using the April
iso instead of the latest image from October. It had something to do with the
latest iOS 10.14.2 on the Mac.
At any rate, after using the April iso file, I had no problems at all. In fact,
I did use narrator with headphones after I got to that point in the
installation process. I was able to complete the installation without any
sighted assistance.
Wow, does windows 10 ever fly on my mid 2014 MBP.

Thanks to everyone for helping me.
Now, I need to decide where I go from here. Do I want Home addition or Pro? Do
I still want to consider a refirbished computer. or, perhaps both. If I decide
to use the Mac only, I'll probably get a few items, like a usb hub and some
additional audio input/output devices.

Again, thanks to everyone.
BTW. I was on the phone with Apple accessibility for about 45 minutes. Thanks
to them as well.

Finally got Windows 10 running on my mac with Bootcamp. Now a few questions

2019-01-05 Thread 'Dan' via MacVisionaries
Hi folks,
I got bootcamp install and windows running just fine on my mac.
Now a few questions.

I'm running windows in restricted mode, that's without a product key.

The quesyion is this.

If I purchase a product key and for some reason I need to completely reinstall
windows on my mac with boot camp, will my product key work every time I need to
do this? Or, will I need to contact Microsoft for a key reset/reactivation?

As I said, this is only if it becomes necessary to reinstall a whole new
install of windows using bootcamp.

Thanks.

first I format the USB drive as fat 32. No files on the desk.

Then I go through the Boot Camp process, at which point Boot Camp format the
USB drive. After the system fails and I look at the USB drive, it has a number
of windows files on the desk and it is also labeled with the windows
installation labor.

Having problems with attempting to install windows 10 on my MBP 2014

2018-12-20 Thread 'Dan' via MacVisionaries
Hello Folks,
I've been attempting to install windows 10 on my MBP mid 2014 model year
machine.
Here are the problems I'm having.
The first time I attempted to do this, I got a message that the install
couldn't be mounted because of not being able to format NTFS.
Then after restarting the machine making sure that boot camp partial install
was removed, I attempted it again. This time I got the error that the usb drive
didn't have enough space. So I used a larger usb drive with 64 GB instead of 32
GB and still got the same result.
This is really dumb. I might as well purchase a refurb windows machine rather
than fooling around with this.
Even though this was what I really wanted to do.
Now I do have another comment to make.
In the install, the first time, My son picked the no license option and it was
after that that the unit said that NTFS couldn't be mounted or something like
that.

Any suggestions?
Thanks.
Sincerely,

Dan

Re: Thinking about running windows 10 on my MBP but first a few questions

2018-11-26 Thread 'Dan' via MacVisionaries
Hello,
Ok, let me start over. I guess I really confused the situation.
I wish to install windows 10 on my mid 2014 MBP. In the instructions it says to
use a usb 2.0 32 gb drive. This is for all the installation stuff. Yes, I know
that bootcamp puts the actuall windows installation on a partition on my SSD.
So my questions are these.
1. instead of a 2.0 usb stick can I use an external usb hard drive to do the
same as the usb stick.
Also, how long can I run windows 10 without a product key before deciding to
purchase windows.
Hope I untangled my questions regarding installing windows 10 on a MBP mid 2014

2018-11-26 Thread 'Dan' via MacVisionaries
hello,

Oh my goodness, I forgot to mention, I'm going to use Boot Camp. I guess that
changed the scenario completely.

So again my question about whether not I can bypass using at to point no Flash
Dr. and instead using a next ternal hard drive.

Digital Voice Recorders and OS X 14.

2018-11-03 Thread 'Dan' via MacVisionaries
Hello list,
I'm thinking about purchasing the eltrinex digital voice recorder. The one that
has built-in voice guidance for blind people.
Does anyone know if this unit can be connected to the mac to transfer files.
Also can I move any firmware to the root of the recorder for updating, directly
from the mac.
Thanks.
