Re: Safari 5 / 10.64 do I install?
Me again, so have done the OSX update and Safari 5 and iTunes, ok I don't so far seem to be having the major issues people were having with Safari so far. I have been able to log in to my audible.co.uk account ok and so far no issues on the Apple site. I have noticed the issue of VO not starting to read mail automatically but I am using the vo J command and seems ok. so far so good but I'm keeping my fingers crossed!! Safari 5 / 10.64 do I install?
Hi, Ok in light of recent traffic over issues people have been having with Safari 5 and the new 10.64 update I am really confused about whether r not I should go ahead an install them. I find it most bizarre that a good number of people on the list are having such major problems and yet others are . As a still fairly new switcher to the Mac I am slowly but sure getting to fid my way around it and someone from the group should also contact someone higher up in Apple, I even think I recall someone a while ago emailing Steve Jobbs and getting a reply. yes I know i the great scheme of things us blind mac users are a tiny proportion of their global market but in view of their otherwise excellent work and commitment to accessibility I think they need to be aware of the evel of problems / frustration people are experiencing. Anyway that's just my view. Yours confusedly, Phil the last thing I want is to have some of the problems others are having. I know there is probably no one answer to this but I'm really uncertain as to how to proceed. Re: iTunes and speakers and voice over
Hi, No doubt others can comment on this but I have heard of an application called "Airfoil" which can send other sound via airtunes to a set of external speakers provided they are connected to an airport base station - not an ideal solution I know and I don't know how accessible it is with VO but worth investigating, I plan on looking at this type of solution myself too soon. cheers, Phil On 26 Apr 2010, at 17:33, marie Howarth wrote: > Hi guys, > > I have used audio highjack for the question I'm about to ask. Here is what I did. * go to the VmWare web site at http://www.vmware.com and find the Fusion section. Once there you have to register and then they send you a trial serial number which you have to enter into the product once installed. Next you have to download the disk image and install the application. Insert your windows cd or dvd and it will show up as a volume on your mac desktop. Now run the VmWare application and type command-n to create a new virtual machine. This starts the virtual machine assistant that will detect that you have a windows disk. Choose the easy install option and click continue. Enter your product key on the next screen and windows will install, the virtual machine will restart and the windows desktop will appear. Now press command- control-enter to make your machine full screen then press command-f5 to turn off vo and command-g to give keyboard focus to the vm. You can now install software under windows. I used a utility called sharpkeys available at http://www.randyrants.com to remap the right command key as an insert key and the right option key as the windows applications key. Another note to keep in mind is that the command key is the windows key and the option key is the alt key so when you use sharpkeys, a utility that inserts a registry key into windows to remap your keyboard keys, you are remapping the right windows key as an insert key and the right alt key as an applications key. Hi Sarah, thanks for that, I did spot the Unknown field but didn't think to interact with it - maybe someone should tell the developers so they can look at fixing this in an update but thanks for the info anyway. cheers, Phil On 10 Apr 2010, at 19:57, Sarah Alawami wrote: > Hello. vo left to the unknown and interact with it. it is actually an html > view thingy but vo can't for some reason recognise it. > > Take care. > On Apr 10, 2010, at 11:54 AM, phil stephenson wrote: > >> Hi, >> >> Prompted by recent discussion on using Adium to do Facebook chat I've >> downloaded it and run it. it asked me if I wanted to use Growl and I said >> yes. >> >> Logged in yesterday and it found my friends who were online with FB at the >> time. i started chatting to someone and they could see my messages however >> I couldn't find their replies with VO - my wife who is sighted said they >> were there but I couldn't find it with VO - can anyone who uses Adium please >> help? >> >> As ever all help gratefully received, >> >> cheers, >> >> Phil >> >> --- >> Phil Stephenson >> >> p...@thestephensons.org >> 07841 714931 >> www.twitter.com/stepphil >> Skype = philstephenson >> >> -- >> You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups >> "MacVisionaries" group. >> To post to this group, send email to macvisionar...@googlegroups.com. >> To unsubscribe from this group, send email to >> macvisionaries+unsubscr...@googlegroups.com. >> For more options, visit this group at >> http://groups.google.com/group/macvisionaries?hl=en. >> > > -- > You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups > "MacVisionaries" group. > To post to this group, send email to macvisionar...@googlegroups.com. > To unsubscribe from this group, send email to > macvisionaries+unsubscr...@googlegroups.com. > For more options, visit this group at > http://groups.google.com/group/macvisionaries?hl=en. > --- Phil Stephenson p...@thestephensons.org 07841 714931 www.twitter.com/stepphil Skype = philstephenson -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "MacVisionaries" group. home & end keys on a macbook pro
Hi All, I have to say I'm having a very frustrating evening with my Macbook Pro and VO tonight - I just can't seem to work out things ne of which being how you get the home and end keys on a macbook pro. I've gone into the keyboard help and it says that pressing the fn key with left / right arrow will do home and end however when I'm in an app such as syrinx or Safari pressing this combination of keys doesn't seem to do anything - am I missing something or doing something wrong? Your help gratefully appreciated as for the first time since having my Mac I fell like just getting out my windows laptop with Jaws as at least I can press a physical page up / down / home / end key and it works. Problems with logging into latest version of Skype
Hi, Have just downloaded the latest version of Skype for mac and am stuck on finding where I sign in with my Skype name etc. I've tried going to the "Accounts" menu and logging as another user but as soon as I select the menu option I'm brought back to the main application screen and can't find where to enter my info. I've interacted with the screen and all VO is telling is that there is a Skype TM box and a "graphic" symbol but I can't get it to tell me anything else? What am I dong wrong? is there another version of Skype that works well with VO? many thanks, Phil -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "MacVisionaries" group. Moving to the top of the tweet list in Syrinx
Hi, continuing to get used to the world of macdom but have a question about using Syrinx. when I open the app I seem to be well down the table which lists the tweets, is there a quick way / keystroke to get me to jump to the top of the table? I've tried what I thought was the page up command of the FN key with up arrow but no joy. Anyone got any ideas, much appreciated.
