Hi Andrew,

If you have a bootable usb drive connected, holding down the option key for a
few seconds then pressing left arrow once to select it should work. HTH.

Hi so on my girlfriend’s upcoming first ever mac will the c shortcut only work
for USB? Asking as my late 2011 mac the c shortcut only boots from CD/DVD and
not USB. Need to give her this information should she need to reinstall macOS.

Press the right arrow key twice to get to the USB key. The first press takes
you to the recovery partition.

Downgrading to El Capitan

2016-09-28 Thread Andrew Lamanche
Hi Listers,

Is it at all possible to downgrade from OS Sierra to El Capitan again? If yes,
would it require a clean install of El Capitan and thus loss of all the data?
Although my late 2010 Macbook air is listed by Apple as being capable of
running Sierra, I wonder whether it is too much to ask of it. It may be just
on the border, and If I were not to be able to use Alex on it because of the
crashes, I'd be inconsolable. No other voice seems to come up to scratch. And
other voices seem to be more sluggish as well as interpret things somewhat
differently.

If a clean installation of El Capitan were to be necessary, I have instructions
on how to create a bootable El Capitan usb drive. The only question mark I
have is - as you restart your mac with the option key depressed in order to get
a list of available booting disks - how can I choose the usb drive reliably?
It's a matter of moving the right or left arrow key once to select a different
disk to start from but I can't remember which way I need to move the cursor.
Any ideas?

Andrew
