Re: Download Complete Sound on MacBook Pro?

2021-03-14 Thread 'Mervin Keck III' via MacVisionaries
Hi,
It took me a couple of tries but I finally got it working. Thanks for your
assistance. I’m learning slowly but I am enjoying my M1 MacBook Pro. I’m still
deciding which music production app I am going to purchase. When I had vision I
used Adobe Audition with my Mixer. So I am considering something heavy duty
such as Logic Pro with a new Mixer if it is accessible. Thanks again for your
help. I am finding I have quite a bit to learn.

Hello.

What happens if the contextual menu does not work to get this sound set up for
downloads? My contextual menu does not work on Big Sur. It has never done
since I upgraded to Big Sur. So how is this done now if the menu does work
please.

Thank you.

Re: Download Complete Sound on MacBook Pro?

2021-03-11 Thread Jonathan Cohn
Hello,
I enabled the folder action which will put up a dialog for 30 seconds when a
new file comes into downloads. The stock one is pretty good, though it
sometimes alerts me of the temporary file before the item is fully downloaded.

1. Open up finder to your home directory.
2. Use the contextual menu"Folder Actions Setup …" it should be near the bottom.
3. You will get a security warning that you need to approve.
4. There wil then be a dialog with two tables. The first table should have your
downloads folder listed.
5. Select "add - new item alert.scpt" for your downloads folder.

I just modified the script behind this to ignore downloads folders and also to
move .exe files to my PC work folder.

I expect some of the file management utilities you can buy can also do this,
but this is build into the OS.

Best wishes,

Jonathan Cohn

When using macOS, there is a sound when a download has completed, but it is not
very distinct, and easily missed.
The sound is on by default, and I don’t believe the sound can be either enabled
or disabled.
