Thanks so much, this works very well. I only wish that something like this were
available on iOS.

Introducing New VOCR For Bravehearts: Navigate Your Mac With OCR With Machine Learning on Catalina!

2019-10-08 Thread Chi Kim

Hi All,

Sorry for cross-posting, but I'm just writing to let everyone know that I
just released a new experimental VOCR.

If you haven't heard VOCR, it's an app that lets you take screenshot of
your mac screen, apply OCR, navigate the result, and move the mouse using
Voiceover. It's similar to features on JAWS and NVDA.

Previously I made VOCR to utilize third party tools such as Tesseract,
Keyboard Maestro, and ImageMagick, so you needed to fiddle with terminal
commands.

Now, new VOCR is a standalone app, and furthermore it utilizes the OCR
capability in VisionKit that takes advantage of machine learning on MacOS
Catalina. The result is much faster and accurate than Tesseract.

Because the tight security in Catalina, there are multiple steps for the
initial setup. You can read the instruction below.

https://github.com/chigkim/VOCR/tree/VK

This is highly experimental, so use at own your risk!

Lastly, this kind of feature should be really built into Voiceover in my
opinion. If you know anyone at Apple, let them know.

Enjoy,

Chi
