Hi, David, Welcome to the list. I did a double-take, because I just realized you've posted to another list I'm on, and thought you were already a member of this one for a while. In any case, my confusion is cleared up. I switched to the Mac in 2010 and just jumped right in. I wasn't doing Assistive Tech work anymore, so I was able to do the full immerssion bit. I've used my husband's Windows computer a few times, but basically, it's been all Apple for me. If my computer decides it's toast and doesn't just simply need a hard-drive replacemen, I may be going to mobile devices for good. I'll think about it. Welcome to the list! I remember the tutorial you did for the type 'n' speak, really enjoyed that when I first got it back in 1993. I have 3 macs at home and no longer have any pcs. I have no regrets about switching, I think the mac does not suffer from many of the problems that windows does, and being able to install and upgrade operating systems without sighted help is a huge advantage as well. Mike, I'm honored that you remember that tutorial, which I recorded in 1993, by the way. I agree with your comments re: Mac advantages over Windows. On the PC, when my Web browser hangs, it often hangs up my screen reader which is NVDA, a screen reader which rarely crashes. The one time Safari actually got hung up, the Mac had no negative effects, whatsoever. Voiceover and my other running apps just worked as though nothing was happening. Quite impressive. I'll tell you that even when I despised the Mac I clearly saw its benefits and I probably could have given a talk to 100 people and might have been able to convince most of them to at least consider switching from Windows to the Mac, even while I was going through my own love-hate relationship with it.
