Um,

I've got the x and I don't by choice use face id,

Therrfore I'm not being forced to use it.

As for choices,

Apple do give you choices.

iPhone 6 upwards give you a number of choices

all have both pin codes and touch ID only the x has pin and face id,

 so I can't see issues
in what you guys are say.

Well they shouldn't force you to use face ID, lucky for us. We still have the
option to buy the 8 and 8plus if we need a device from this year. Personally
for me the last IPhone I will own will be the last I am able to get touch ID.

Enjoy your new 8 plus.

Subject: It's Official: Mark is on iPhone 8 Plus (smile)

Hello All,

Well, I was in an Apple Store today just browsing around when I decided to
go ahead and make the plunge and get a new phone.

While I have thoroughly enjoyed my time with iPhone 10, believe it or not, I
do not like its smaller form factor nor, as a low vision user, its display
aspect-ratio in terms of watching videos. To me, it's just too narrow.
Again, this is just my opinion and my opinion, only.

As for my take on Face ID? Hmm! Well, the thrill of it wore off pretty
fast on me (smile).

While I have no doubt but that Face ID is here to stay, as well it should, I
decided to go with a SIM-free, space gray, 256GB iPhone 8 Plus.

I was surprised to learn that the SIM-free models of the iPHone 8 series
launched in the US at the same time as the carrier-branded models. It used
to be that the SIM-free models were launched no sooner than two months after
the carrier-branded models.

I was told by an Apple Genius, today, that the SIM-free model of iPhone 10
is not yet available in the US.

Just as an F.Y.I., in the USA, only the SIM-free models ship with a SIM card
removal tool. I have always thought this to be a ridiculous practice of
Apple for, carrier-branded or not, one may choose to remove the SIM card at
some point in the future. Besides, for the amount of money one pays for
iPhone, I think Apple should include the SIM card removal tool, along with a
three-course meal, for that matter. (smile)

I also purchased Apple Care Plus along with my prerequisite screen
protector.

I was delighted to discover that the 8 plus fits in the same case as my 6
plus so no added expense, there.

I updated my Windows iTunes 12.6 to 12.6.3 and it's running beautifully.

As I did not update my iPhone 6 Plus to iOS 11.x, I will make a full backup
to iTunes and restore to the new phone later this weekend.

Okay, I know that's more information than you wanted but, what can I say?
I'm feeling chatty (smile).

Until Next Time,

Mark

Hi David,

Yes I just received the case I ordered for my x and I'd say approx. 12.5mm
shorter than the 7+ and approx. .75cm narrower but thicker in body

So it will be interesting to see what it's actually like once it arrives.

The iPhone X is just a little larger then the 7 and 8. It is significantly
smaller than the 8+ and 7+. However, it is the heaviest of all the iPhones.

There is a rumour that Apple is working on an X+ which is supposed to be just
slightly smaller than the 8+ / 7+.

Hi. The 10 is an inch bigger in screen size so I’m not sure why you think it’s
smaller than the 8+?

Re: It's Official: Mark is on iPhone 8 Plus (smile)

2017-11-11 Thread Eileen Scrivani
I think it will be a wonderful device. Although, last night while watching
A.b.C. news at 11 PM they had a short clip about issues with Apple’s new 10 and
its locking up in the cold. It turned very cold here yesterday and we’re now
having December/January temps in the 20’s & 30’s. The broadcast said Apple is
aware of the problem and working on it. Other than that they didn’t give any
further information.

I’m keeping my fingers crossed that by the time I get my phone in early
december I’ll get a model that doesn’t have any adversions to cold. Between now
and then I guess I’ll get knitting and make the thing a protective warming
case!

Hi Mark,

I too went to my local Apple store earlier this week intending to get a new
phone. I looked at both the 8 and the new 10. I didn’t consider looking at the
8 plus since I like a phone that takes up smaller real estate in my purse &
pocket. I still can’t believe I took the plunge, but I ordered an IPhone 10 in
silver with 256G. I have to say I think the phone is really slick. And even
though I don’t see the screen I do find myself using the phone for a lot of
scanning and picture taking these days. I think the better photo ability will
help at the end of the day. I do think its crazy money to spend on a phone. I
never in my life thought I’d spend this much on a phone, but I do love my cell
phone and its so much more than just a phone. This one will have to last me
longer than usual because I can’t justify upgrading this one in another 3 or 4
years. To be honest my IPhone 6 is still working perfectly and is in good
condition. I treated myself and why not we only live once!

I will have a learning curve on some of the new gestures once I get the phone
in 3 to 4 weeks. I also wound up coming home and placing the order by phone
because I wanted to return my 6 for cash, but to do that I would have been
without a phone during the 3 or 4 week waiting period on the 10. So once I get
the 10 I’ll go back to the Apple store and ask for gift cards for my phone and
my husbands 6 which I had been holding onto. I’ll buy all the necessary
accessories once I have the gift cards in-hand.

Enjoy your new 8 plus.

Mark

That’s not a bad price, Mark, when one considers how much these devices do for
us. I use my iPhone to read eBooks, get around, get sighted assistance, listen
to Audible books, identify packages that I purchase from the grocery store, and
the list goes on.

I hope you have loads of fun with your new phone!

All the best from Austria, where lots of people will be enjoying St. Martin’s

Hello Saqib,

Actually, the case I use is from Case Mate. It's a folio with an entire square
cut out for the camera.

I have the phone in the case and it's perfect.

I went to look at the Case Mate site and they are still selling the same case,
with an updated description that includes iPhone 7 Plus and iPHone 8 Plus.

Hi. You will have to get a new case as it will partially block the rear camera.
I couldn’t use my 6S+ case on my 7+ and 8+.

Hello Michael,

Well, the phone was $949 and Apple Care Plus was $149. Of course, this was

Hey Mark,

So do you mind telling us how much the damage was for the phone and the Apple
Care Plus package? I usually purchase my iPhones when visiting family in the
States, though I believe that the difference in price between there and here in
Europe might be less than what it once was.

Take care,

Hi Mark,

Interesting your thoughts on the 10, I guess as a sightless user I wont worry
about the screen size,

Although I have the 7+ for exactly that reason, larger screen size better
access to keyboard for fatter fingers.

As my 10 hasn't yet arrived I thought I'd look in to cases for it,
I didn't realise that the width is only slightly less than the 7+ but the
length is probably 1 centimeter shorter than the +
'
So I can see what is meant by smaller form factor.

Re: It's Official: Mark is on iPhone 8 Plus (smile)

2017-11-10 Thread Eileen Scrivani

Eileen

Hi. You will have to get a new case as it will partially block the rear camera.
I couldn’t use my 6S+ case on my 7+ and 8+.

It's Official: Mark is on iPhone 8 Plus (smile)

2017-11-09 Thread M. Taylor

Mark
