Re: Launch Bar Audio Question
Thanks for this info. For some odd reason when I tab to something in Launch Bar instead of getting the option to attach the file or doing something else with it the tab command is taking me to the next item in the Launch Bar list. I do have quick nav turned off so not sure why this is happening. I do subscribe to the Mac Power Users podcast but haven't had the time to listen to it in ages. Also has anyone chosen to delete certain items from indexing in Launch Bar? I would like to do this and read that you can but can't seem to find it in the preferences. For example something called Latin fonts and other stuff like that come up that I know I am never going to go to so would like to remove it from the index as I think this would eliminate me getting lost in the indexes so much. I read you can quickly launch tasks and programs by holding the last key you press down but since I am so new to it I am finding most of the time I am not landing on what I want to go to again I think removing some of the indexes would eliminate this. Re: Launch Bar Audio Question
Furthering this discussion, I will add that pressing the “enter” key is not always necessary. For example, when typing the letters “S, H, U,” as LaunchBar begins to “learn” the keystrokes, holding the letter “u,” will automatically initiate the “shut-down” command. Similarly, this works for other applications and files. Abbreviation shortcuts are also another great feature that I use regularly. When indexing a folder, in this case “automatically add to iTunes,” I simply highlight the folder, press “command-option-A” to initiate the abbreviation shortcut key assignment feature, press the letters “A, A,” then press enter. Now when I invoke LaunchBar (regardless where my location is at), I can just press the letters “A, A,” and the automatically add to iTunes,” folder immediately appears. Finally, a feature I greatly enjoy is when selecting a file or a series of files I want to insert as attachments, I merely press the “tab” key and begin typing the recipient’s name to whom I want the files to be sent to. After locating the correct E-mail address, I just press “enter,” and the files are automatically inserted into the body of the message as attached files with the recipient’s E-mail address already inserted in the “sent to” field. All that is left is merely to type a subject line and small note, and send the message. These are just some ways I use LaunchBar. I am excited to get my hands on the most recent update to LaunchBar, which is version 6. Moreover, I recommend subscribing to the Mac Power Users podcast because while not everything is applicable for voiceover users, the majority of information provided by guests, the hosts, and other sources of information – are all quite helpful to some degree. Cheers. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "MacVisionaries" group. Re: Launch Bar Audio Question
Hey Traci, Thanks for your thoughts. Always good to hear what people are liking about a program you are new to. I have not emailed or called Apple Accessibility about the audio issue as I am pretty sure it is a Launch Bar specific issue since it is the only program that is doing this. I think the issue might be that Launch Bar runs in the background so the operating system treats it like it is a process as for example as I type this voiceOver reads through my internal speakers and if I was to get a notification while typing this for example say Facebook, it would be announced through the bluetooth speakers and not through the internal. No clue why things work this way but I don't mind it. What I do mind is Launch Bar being read through both sets of speakers creating a bizarre echo, very strange. I do see the usefulness of LaunchBar for certain tasks, and I am sure with time I might love it but for now I love my keyboard commanders to launch or toggle between programs. Also I got a new bluetooth keyboard with a num pad so recently started using num pad commander which I now love and interestingly there seems to be a key on this new keyboard where you press it and it brings up the shut down sleep etc menu which is very nice. Love this full keyboard over the Apple bluetooth keyboard with out the num pad. Who knew spilling soda all over my Apple keyboard causing it to short out would be such a blessing. Re: Launch Bar Audio Question
I hope you grow to find Launch Bar more useful. I bought it sometime last year and have enjoyed it ever since. My apologies I can't help with the audio issue, I have my sound through my headset only. Here are 3 quick ways I use launch bar the most. ;) Only 3, I use it for a whole lot more. 1. I start typing goo, which brings up google search. I hit spacebar then type my query and hit enter. Safari opens up with my google search results. 2. It has been a very long time, but I think I had to index this folder. If I have a file I want to import to iTunes, I copy it, then type auto into launch bar to bring up automatically add to iTunes. I can move the file there. 3. Shutdown. This is how I shutdown my Mac. Begin typing shut into launch bar and press enter. :) I use it for so many other little tasks. Here's hoping you enjoy the app! Good luck with your audio issue. So far, I have found the developers responsive. A little side question, have you emailed apple accessibility? Since it is a Voiceover specific thing. Hey Pam, Honestly I don't know how useful the app is to someone who uses VoiceOver and already uses keyboard commander to launch the main apps that you use. What I have found in my limited use of Launch Bar is it does help you get to a specific file a little quicker and find a song in your iTunes library quicker, but honestly I am not sure that warrants the price, as I do find myself getting lost in the indexes more often than getting to something I am looking for quickly.
