Re: Learning to code for IOS and MAC

2017-06-13 Thread Alex Hall
I did it online. Learn the basics of Swift (Apple's programming language)
first, so you have an idea of how to write and read code you'll see. Then check
out AppleVis, where there are a few guides and forums on the topic. Xcode is
what you'll need to write apps, so grab that from the App Store on Mac and
follow the guides to start to learn it.

I know this is a huge over simplification, but those are the very basics. As
you learn more details, you can ask questions. A few email lists are
mv-...@googlegroups.com , and
xc...@apple-dev.groups.io. The former is for VI people, the latter isn't but
should still have helpful members. Oh, you might want co...@apple-dev.groups.io
once you get more into it. Finally, Apple has a free ebook on Swift, available
through iBooks, and there are tons of online resources. Just try to find Swift
3 whenever you can as learning older Swift may prove confusing. Finally, all
this presupposes you have a solid grasp of the fundamentals of programming. If
you don't, you should start there. You need to understand functions, variables,
classes/objects, flow control, imports, and other coding concepts before much
of Swift will make sense.
