This iBook was being offered for free by the author back in 2014. I was also
mentioned on Applevis as being a good resource for using numbers and pages on
the Mac. It’s no longer available in the U.S. App Store. Does anyone have a

This iBook was being offered for free by the author back in 2014. I was also
mentioned on Applevis as being a good resource for using numbers and pages on
the Mac. It’s no longer available in the U.S. App Store. Does anyone have a
copy they can post to dropbox?

 to do this:
 - imho its easiest to download the book on ios, make sure to open it as well
 on that device.
 - then open ibooks on the mac, it will ask you for your apple id so it can
 sync with icloud
 - open the book on the mac once as well.
 - then go to the finder and use the go to folder commando (cmd+shift+g) and
 paste the following path
 ~/Library/Containers/com.apple.BKAgentService/Data/Documents/iBooks/Books
this is the folder where apple stores the ibooks that you have downloaded

The books are given a random number, in my case since the book was the last
one i added it was easy to find just by looking at the date modified column.
 - go to that folder and then to the underlying ops folder. Here you will find
 the chapter files.
Its perhaps a good idea to copy the whole book to a different folder so that
it will be easier to find in future.

If i try to read it normally then i cant get to the next page or chapter. Also

Re: tip: reading 'mastering the macintosh with vo' ON THE MAC

2014-08-09 Thread Caitlyn Furness
Ah, OK.

Well, to get to the next chapter, I have made my own shortcut, control n.
Control p is for previous chapter. You can set these up in keyboard in the
system prefs. The given shortcut for next chapter in i books doesn't seem to
work for me, it's supposed to be command shift right arrow, but all that does
is highlight the current line here. that's why I made my own shortcuts.
For me, after I hit control n, I have to stop intereacting with the current
chapter and then vo right arrow to the next one, then interact again.

The table of contents doesn't stay on the screen long enough to actually
navigate to things. As soon as you try to move the vo cursor up or down to
read the contents, it goes away, so this is useless for me.

I have sent email to accessibility at apple to make them aware of these things..
hth,
Cait

this is the folder where apple stores the ibooks that you have downloaded
 onto your mac.
The books are given a random number, in my case since the book was the last
one i added it was easy to find just by looking at the date modified column.
 - go to that folder and then to the underlying ops folder. Here you will
 find the chapter files.
Its perhaps a good idea to copy the whole book to a different folder so
that it will be easier to find in future.

Re: tip: reading 'mastering the macintosh with vo' ON THE MAC

2014-08-09 Thread Anouk Radix
Hi,
I have mailed aple accessibility as well.
These things should just work imho without you having to make your own
shortcuts, the default ones should just do their job.
I am happy that it works for you though.

I have sent email to accessibility at apple to make them aware of these
 things..

 Cait

Hi, my problem is that i only seem to be able to do it by using the item
chooser and even that stops at a certain point.
If i try to read it normally then i cant get to the next page or chapter.
Also i could never seem to figure out how to use the table of contents to
 navigate to a spot directly.
Admittedly it has been a few months since i tried this though.

 thanks for the tip.

Just curious, what sorts of problems are you having trying to read in
ibooks with braille? I've been doing it for about a week now and don't see
 a problem?

 Hi everyone,
I am not sure about the legalities of this but since ibooks on the mac is
rather inaccessible with a braille display and even though you can use a
braille display on ios it just does not feel as comfortable as reading
braille on a mac to me.
So, i got this tip from an acquaintance of mine and thought i would share.
Since this is a free and apparently unprotected ibook (this does not
neccessarily go hand in hand, some paid ibooks are protected others are
 not).
It is actually possi ble to read the ibook on the mac with safari. Epub
apparently is just a container, at least the text of the ibook is some
 kind of html.
 to do this:
 - imho its easiest to download the book on ios, make sure to open it as
 well on that device.
 - then open ibooks on the mac, it will ask you for your apple id so it can
 sync with icloud
 - open the book on the mac once as well.
 - then go to the finder and use the go to folder commando (cmd+shift+g)
 and paste the following path
 ~/Library/Containers/com.apple.BKAgentService/Data/Documents/iBooks/Books
this is the folder where apple stores the ibooks that you have downloaded
 onto your mac.
The books are given a random number, in my case since the book was the
last one i added it was easy to find just by looking at the date modified
 column.
