Re: OK, Apple TV is Here and a handy Remote

2010-12-02 Thread Kevin Mattingly
The $99 apple Tv, I think it is model 2, has voice over. It didn't come out of
the box with it though. When I hooked it up, it had to run an update before
VoiceOver was there.

Hi kevin,

That may not be the same on all of them. They probably didn't all have 4.1 at
the time, though I suspect future shipments probably will.

Over here, not all devices of the same generation have the latest update
applied in the shops, or even when delivered. In most cases they do where I a,
though.

Re: OK, Apple TV is Here and a handy Remote

2010-12-02 Thread Nicolai Svendsen
Hello Kevin,

I've always been curious as to what the TV is really for. I want one just to
have one, but since Denmark doesn't even have movies anymore much less rentals,
I'm not sure it'd even be useful.

I'm tempted to buy one just to have one, but not sure if it'd even be worth it
for me. I guess by the time we finally get an accessible TV that talks, I'd be
happy. I like channels more than renting my movies. I don't mind renting at
all, but sometimes, I just like to flick through channels and attempt to find
something that isn't garbage.

Re: OK, Apple TV is Here and a handy Remote

2010-12-02 Thread Kevin Mattingly
If you get netflicks at some point in time, you'll be in great shape. That
really makes a difference for me. An apple TV just gives you a few more options
and you can operate it from a remote on your TV. My biggest issue now is that
the remote wants to interact with my mini too, so I have to watch hitting enter
on the remote or I'll have music and movies going at the same time.

Re: OK, Apple TV is Here and a handy Remote

2010-12-02 Thread Neil James
I can't give to much info yet because our Dish service won't be installed
until Saturday, but the latest generation of Dish DVR boxes will give you
complete control via the Dish iPhone app. If you have an iPhone or iPod
touch that is. You can search for programs set recordings and even locate
and start playback of programs which are stored on your dvr all from your I
device. I will report more after Saturday if people are interested.

I wish uverse, direct or dish had voiceover on their tebos! I hope apple
makes a tebo so I can record stuff myself or just see what is on by
flipping through. Heather

Just to expand on this,

DirectTV is a different type of thing. Apple TV lets you aggregate your
digital media on to your TV where something like a DirecTV or Dish box
grabs live content over the air or from space.

2010-12-02 Thread Kevin Mattingly
Once VoiceOver is up and running, you have multiple menus.

From far left to right:

In Movies, Under this title are top movies, and different ways of selecting
movies from the apple store using itunes

In TV Shows, This is the same but a list of TV shows to get from ITunes

In Internet, This has YouTube, Netflix, Flicker and so on

In ComPuters, Has an option to turn on home sharing

In Settings, Has different setup stuff to look through

Hope this helps

It sure does; I am in the apple store right now and I continue to be impressed
with how these folks really get working with blind folks. My iPhone 4 is
really messed up and this guy knows VO and didn't even shrink and make me turn
it off. Nor did he do so when I popped my Air up on the counter so we could
make sure that I had all the info on the Air I need before they do a mega major
restore of my poor dear sick iPhone! I am so mpressed with the people at the
South Center Takwila Washington Store!

call it the man relm or maybe even Kev's Bar and Tap room.

Re: OK, Apple TV is Here and a handy Remote

2010-12-01 Thread Marlaina Lieberg
Ok, so what part does voiceover play and if I get the one without a hard drive,
that is the model with vo? Sorry if these are stupid questions, but I have
gigs and gigs of music which I can't play on our Bose, and this looks like it
might solve my problem. Before I go to the Apple store, I want to at least
look like I know what I'm talking about. Does vo speak menus? Could I get
them to show me that in the store? Again, sorry for so many questions. I
don't know how you people keep all this stuff straight, LOL!

Re: OK, Apple TV is Here and a handy Remote

2010-12-01 Thread Scott Granados
Just to expand on this,

DirectTV is a different type of thing. Apple TV lets you aggregate your
digital media on to your TV where something like a DirecTV or Dish box grabs
live content over the air or from space.

functions for the remote? I haven't hooked up the TV yet because I don't
have the handy dandy HDMI cable. Once I hook it up, get it running and play
with it some, I'll pass along any learnings.

It's not a TV, it's a set top box you attach to your TV

Re: OK, Apple TV is Here and a handy Remote

2010-12-01 Thread Scott Granados
Dish has an IPhone app that's free. Just attach your receiver via ethernet
cable to your router, download and install the app, and you've got control of
your DVR. I've had moderate success so far even in playing back content from
the disk.
