Re: Preserving configuration files under /etc across Mac OS upgrades

2022-04-18 Thread 'Tim Kilburn' via MacVisionaries
Hi,

I thought that I noticed a one time when I was in Terminal a couple of weeks
ago, that Apple may have added this functionality themselves. I am running
12.4 on an M1 MBP, so that may be a factor. I also was in a hurry, so didn’t
read the message in detail, so I could be dreaming.

Later…

No, but possibly rsync.

So that you make a script with dd that copy it back and forth.

I would prefer not to have to do anything - just change the
configuration files once and leave them there.

I suppose it's another reminder of why Linux is the best working
environment.

2022-04-17 Thread John Panarese
SIP and security changes in Big Sur and Monterey have changed the way many
system resources are handled. Again, I am not certain off the top of my head
what has changed in MacOS 12, but the previous suggestion of a script might
work as well.

The files in /etc are configuration files which are supposed to be
subject to modification by the system administrator. It's possible, of
course, that Apple no longer respects this convention.

Preserving configuration files under /etc across Mac OS upgrades

2022-04-16 Thread 'Jason White' via MacVisionaries
I edited /etc/pam.d/sudo to allow Touch ID to be used instead of a password
with the sudo command. However, this change is lost whenever the operating
system is upgraded.
Is there a way to make it persistent across upgrades?
I searched the Web but didn’t find any answers.
