Hi!
I don’t get this either.
I use the doc sommetimes but he can open his download folder when he’s at the 
desktop by pressing cmd option l.

Hi Gary,

Have your friend try the following and see if it helps:

1.  Go to the Dock using VO + D, and place focus on the icon for the Downloads 
folder.
2.  Use VO + SHIFT + M, to open a shortcut menu that will allow you to change 
how the folder contents are viewed.
3.  Use VO + Up/Down Arrows to navigate this menu so that category headings can 
be read.
4.  Navigate to the Display As category, and choose Folder.
5.  Use VO + D to return focus to the Dock, and VO + SHIFT + M to reopen the 
shortcut menu.  Then navigate the menu to the Display Content As category, and 
choose List.

This should allow contents of the Folder to be read by voiceOver.

I'm talking to my friend in Australia, he has noticed something strange with
