   Thanks guys. I will be leaving shortly to get the new phone. I 
thought I had made a note of the changes to the use of the home button.

Since you're going from one iPhone to another, you could also sync via iCloud. 
Just sign into your account on the new one and, so long as you've turned on 
iCloud syncing for the items you want, the new phone should pick them up once 
it's set up. Syncing this way can include calendar events, reminders, notes, 
contacts, texts (as of iOS 11.3, which isn't out yet), iMessages, pictures, 
Safari favorites, saved credit cards and passwords (if iCloud Keychain is 
turned on), and probably more I'm forgetting.
