Re: Anyone Having a Problem with Nightowl?

2023-01-16 Thread bbsshawn via MacVisionaries
Well Eric, I want to believe your three other possibilities, but due to Musk's
previous actions like firing the accessibility team and forcing almost all the
employees out of there by their resignations, it sounds like he don't give a
damn about us who don't use the native Twitter app or the website. I've even
said on my Twitter account that there's no room for people like you and I in
Musk's Twitter. As for Mastodon, I've set up an account on there. I'm just
waiting for approval for the server I chose. By the way, if you all want to
follow me on there, it's bbsshawnontwitch.

Re: Anyone Having a Problem with Nightowl?

2023-01-16 Thread Eric Oyen
At this point, Mastodon is looking like a viable alternative. Been posting via
the twitter site as responses to many of my followers tweets to cross post and
follow on mastodon. And yes, twitter apparently shut down the 3rd party app API
on Thursday 2023-01-12 without announcement or comment. They have also not
responded to queries from much of the tech media outlets and Elon Musk has been
silent on this point. He comments about everything else but has made absolutely
no comment or responses on any directed tweets on this subject sent his way.

Now, three possibilities present themselves on this:
1. Twitter shut down the API in order to perform system upgrades
2. Something was broken and they are working on it
3. A cuckoo’s egg was triggered on the part of a former disgruntled employee
which shut down the API

Now, a 4th possibility presents itself as twitter shutting down the API in
order to force people to use officially supported clients. If this last is the
case, then no matter how much Elon touts his platform as free speech, it won’t
be because many of us can’t, or won’t, use the official clients for whatever
reason.

Now, I have maintained a profile on mastodon since almost day one and because
of this event, I am encouraging anyone on twitter that sees my posts to
trasition over to there as a backup until twitter gets it’s act together.

Now, I suspect that Elon Musk will probably get a rather rude education on why
it isn’t a good idea to mess with people on the platform.

Thanks, I appreciate the information everyone. It does seem very deliberate on
Twitter’s part and if they do end up disabling all third party apps like this
permanently, it might be what pushes me over the edge to just stop using
Twitter. I’ve been thinking about it for a while anyway.

Re: Anyone Having a Problem with Nightowl?

2023-01-14 Thread 'Candie Bridges' via MacVisionaries
Hi all.

According to what I’ve been reading, most third party clients are not working
with Twitter. It seems to be a big problem for many. I wonder if it is because
of the changes they are making with the timelines. Hopefully, they’ll fix it,
unless they’re wanting to force us all to use their own client in order to push
the ads and content they choose..

Regards,
Candie

2023-01-14 Thread Eric Oyen
You know what? You aren’t the only one.

Mine stopped working while still online and then when I went to restart it, it
got caught in an authentication loop that even my sighted roomie can’t get
around. I have tried contacting the developers and even posted a screen capture
video to their twitter accounts (on the main timeline) and so far, no response.

I really need this client for some of the work I am doing for my work as a
researcher in health news. Without it, I am stuck either using the website
(which is slow and cumbersome) or one of the other twitter clients. Btw,
TweetDesk no longer is supported under Mac. Been trying some of the others on
the Mac app store and, so far, accessibility has been mostly a miss.

One item, I suspect that twitter changed something in their API and it broke
NightOwl.
