Ok, good news for me. I ran one of those cleaning CDs with the little brushes on it through my drive, and it works fine now. It's a hardware issue and needs to be resolved by an apple engineer depending on your system. Agreed. Or all your DVDs went bad at the same time :) Hopefully whatever is in there isn't scratching up your disks. Hi Teresa, YOu most likely have some kind of hardware issue, probably something stuck in the drive itself. This happened to me and it ended up being a piece of paper. Take your machine to an Apple Store and they can remove it for you.
