Alex takes up way too much ram as I understand it. and there is another reason apple didn't or rather couldn't incorporate alex. I'm quite fond of Samantha. I'm told that the date format is affected by the regional settings, so if you're a north American and change to UK (perhaps Oz as well?), you'll get European date format, i.e. day/month/year.
