Re: mac application prismo is half price in Mac app store

2013-02-05 Thread Christina C.
Hmmm, I am not sure I understand what you mean when you say you cannot OCR
within the app. I can OCR within prizmo. If you did not OCR in prizmo than how
did you OCR with Prizmo to compare to abbyy? :) I was hoping Prizmo was a good
trade off because the price for Prizmo was quite a bit less than Abbyy and I
also would not have to purchase VuScan.

I still don't quite get Prizmo yet though. :) I was able to scan within the app
than I was able to perform OCr. Then I Exported it into a PDF. That PDF read
quite nicely in Preview. This is off of VERY limited experience though.

I do want to add that I personally find the User's Guide impossible to
understand. Maybe I'm a ditz but I truly feel it was poorly executed.

Have a super day.

Re: mac application prismo is half price in Mac app store

2013-02-04 Thread Christina C.
Hi,

I am barely fiddling with the mac app but I figured out how to do a scan. If
you go to file and click on new, then VO around in the window that opens up
until you hear something like import from camera and scanner. Select that than
VO and interact until you find the name of your scanner. I had to do an actual
mouse click on the name of my scanner, I'm not sure why VO plus spacebar didn't
work, but I had to use the command vo plus command plus F5 to route my mouse
pointer to the VO cursor first though, even though I have that already set up
as a default in VO. It gets muddy for me after that but I will play with it
later.

Good Luck,

However, I can figure out if this program is also designed to work with a

Or is this program (only) designed to import pictures from the hd to ocr them?

If I can use the program with my scanner, is it also possible to scan from

Thx for your remarks.

Re: mac application prismo is half price in Mac app store

2013-02-04 Thread Christina C.
William,

I cannot speak for ABBYY as I have never used it. Nor, can I offer much info
about prizmo as I am very new to prizmo 2. I have a little bit of experience. I
was able to use my scanner directly from prizmo. I scanned a two page paperback
book and the results were good. I was able to export the OCR'd document into a
pdf. I found it a bit cumbersome and a bit difficult to get around, but it's
brand new to me so I'm not sure if I am just a slow learner and it's actually
simple. If you go to the mac app store it will tell you all the ways you can
import documents for OCR. A few I remember is, from a camera, from a scanner,
from a file, and from screen capture. I believe you can even use your iPhone
while hooked up to your computer to take a picture.
HTH,
Christina

2013-02-03 Thread Annie Skov Nielsen
Hi.

I have in fact godt prizmo to work, but I would recommend to do the scanning
with vuescan, and do the OCR with prizmo.

I bought it a wile ago on a macupdate desktop offer.

The Ocr is very good. In fact I got better results with some cookbooks than in
finereader 11. But I have an a3 scanner, and the prizmo for mac can still not
use a3 format, that will hopefully be fixed soon, it can still not split
doubble pages, that will also be fixed.and there should also be some VoiceOver
improvements.
Send a mail for the developer, so that they know, that we would like to use
their app, and would like some improvements.

Best regards Annie.

Re: mac application prismo is half price in Mac app store

2013-02-01 Thread Les Kriegler
Hi Mary,

Thanks for letting us know about this sale. It sounds like I can use my iPhone
4S or our HP scanner with this product.

This is advertised as a Macworld special, so I would guess it will not be on

scanning application. I'm on s/l still, so it is a no go for me. It is
 supposedly vo friendly.

Re: mac application prismo is half price in Mac app store

2013-02-01 Thread Mary Otten
I will be curious how it works if you try it, Les. I was kind of hoping I could
buy it at this price and then install it on a future Mac, but it won't let me
do that because I have only SL. And of course I meant os 10.7.5, not ios 10.7.5
in my original note.

Re: mac application prismo is half price in Mac app store

2013-02-01 Thread Esther
Hello Mary, Les, and Others,

Apparently you can download a trial version of Prizmo 2 from the
developer's web, but not, of course, from the Mac App store. Try going
to the Macupdate page for this app and use the Download Now link:
http://www.macupdate.com/app/mac/31157/prizmo
I would be cautious about this, since I think Anne Robertson purchased
Prizmo version 1, and wasn't very happy with it. On the other hand,
many people who did not think much of the first version seem to like
the second version. Not some thing I would buy without trying.

Please note that you may need to make your purchase from the Mac App
store to get the discounted MacWorld special price.

HTH. Cheers,

Esther

It seems to be fairly accessible. The problem is figuring out how the heck
you actually scan and OCR a document.
