Re: Recovering HomeKit setup codes?

2018-06-02 Thread Alex Hall
Thanks for the ideas. I found that app soon after I discovered what I'd done,
and I purchased it. It looks great for tracking and backing up codes, but it
can do nothing to recover them if they weren't entered originally. That's too
bad. Still, I do plan to put all my codes in moving forward.

Hi Alex,

I actually stumbled on called HomePass which let you store. You can either scan

Re: Recovering HomeKit setup codes?

2018-06-02 Thread Daniel McGee
Hi Alex

I don't use any smart home light bulbs. Do you use a password manager at all?

I know it's kind of risky to do it this way but the way I see it, is that it's
a place where one can store all there codes, login's etc.

As an example, last year, I got the new iPhone 8 having upgraded from a 5.
During the process, I forgot my local library card info. So I had to give them
a call and obtain this information again to log into the app they use for
audiobooks.

It was no problem ringing them up and getting this info again, however had it
of been in my password manager of choice, I wouldn't had to ring up and could
of just used my password manager to login to the respected app again.

You don't have to do this of course. It was just an idea / suggestion to
consider.

Re: Recovering HomeKit setup codes?

2018-06-02 Thread Alex Hall
Never mind. It turns out the setup code is also printed on the base of the bulb
itself, so I was able to manually type it in and get things back to normal.
That's a huge relief! Each bulb is around $20, which is good for smart bulbs
but would still be annoying to lose just because I got rid of some paper.
