Re: Running windows programs on the mac.
You will need some sort of emulator. Fusion would still require windows as I understand things because all that is is a virtual environment for hosting virtual machines which would still need to have an OS installed. Wine may work if there’s a Mac port. > On Oct 1, 2015, at 8:50 AM, Singing Sparrow <sunsh...@abe.midco.net> wrote: > > what about whine? > > On 10/1/2015 6:03 AM, Christopher-Mark Gilland wrote: >> Not unless you want to do it in a virtual machine with VMWare Fusion. >> >> Chris. >> >> - Original Message - From: "Singing Sparrow" <sunsh...@abe.midco.net> >> To: <macvisionaries@googlegroups.com> >> Sent: Thursday, October 01, 2015 12:50 AM >> Subject: Running windows programs on the mac. >> >> >>> Is there anyway to run windows programs on the mac with out installing >>> windows? >>> >>> -- >>> You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups >>> "MacVisionaries" group. >>> To unsubscribe from this group and stop receiving emails from it, send an >>> email to macvisionaries+unsubscr...@googlegroups.com. >>> To post to this group, send email to macvisionaries@googlegroups.com. >>> Visit this group at http://groups.google.com/group/macvisionaries. >>> For more options, visit https://groups.google.com/d/optout. >> > > > -- > You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups > "MacVisionaries" group. > To unsubscribe from this group and stop receiving emails from it, send an > email to macvisionaries+unsubscr...@googlegroups.com. > To post to this group, send email to macvisionaries@googlegroups.com. > Visit this group at http://groups.google.com/group/macvisionaries. > For more options, visit https://groups.google.com/d/optout. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "MacVisionaries" group. You could also try Crossover which tries to run Windows apps without Windows by mapping all the Windows APIs to Mac APIs. It's built on Wine. I don't know how accessible it is but they have a free trial so you could give it a whirl. https://www.codeweavers.com/products/crossover-mac/ A bit about their support of the Wine project: https://www.codeweavers.com/about/support_wine/ CB On 10/1/15 10:46 AM, Alex Hall wrote: An app called Wineskin is what I used to run an audio game on the Mac. Re: Running windows programs on the mac.
I was going to say. You're not going to really get anything good out of this. The best solution honestly is a virtual environment. Getting it to work with Wine might be doable, but finding out whether an application will work with Wine, then tweaking it to work correctly is incredibly tedious. I've found through personal experience that most of the time, if it isn't in the Wine AppDB, it isn't worth the effort. Re: Running windows programs on the mac.
WINE would be just the thing for audiogames, if anybody has figured out how to actually do it. I’ve never got it to work. There are tools such as WineBottler and WineSkin that can help you wrap Windows binaries plus dependencies inside an app package. In theory they should work for such applications. I’ve never got it to work, even though they don’t make any system-wide changes and are entirely self-contained. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "MacVisionaries" group.
