Re: Sharing a file on my iCloud drive

2023-09-06 Thread 'Donna Goodin' via MacVisionaries
Joseph,

I, too have wanted to do this on occasion. As I understand what you wrote, if
I copy a file from my iCloud Drive to my downloads folder, then paste that file
into a mail message, the recipient of that message will see not the filename,
but a link. But when I tried that, it did not work, I saw the filename, just
as I would have expected. What am I missing here?
TIA,
Donna

Hi Paul, you can copy the file from your downloads folder and it will send it
as a link. They don't need to sign into iCloud in order to download the file.
It will give them an option to play or rewind our fast forward or tram, but he
will just have to advise them not to modify the file if you don't want them to
modify the fil but it won't affect your copy of the file if they do anything to
it at their choice. Your copy of the file will be the same. I recently sent
somebody a zoom link file and it sent it via iCloud once it was pasted into an
email.

Sharing a file on my iCloud drive

2023-09-05 Thread Paul Hopewell
Hello,
I am running the latest Ventura on my 2019 iMac. I use VoiceOver and want to
share an 60 MB or so MP3 file which is in my iCloud drive with about 10 people.
I need these people to play the MP3 file but not allow them to modify or delete
it.
In the past I used to do this via Drop Box. I loaded the file onto Drop Box and
then used the context menu to get a Link to the file which I then included in
the Email to the relevant people.
I can still do this but would rather avoid Drop Box. Is there some way to get a
Link to the file on my iCloud Drive and include it in an Email? Note that some
of the Email recipients use iPad and others use Windows. I want the process to
be simple for the Email recipients and do not want them to have to install
iCloud or other software on their machines. If that were necessary I would
revert to the Drop Box solution.
Many thanks for any tips… Paul Hopewell
