Re: Slightly OT: question about dates in Numbers app

2018-02-27 Thread Jonathan Cohn
Alex,

I looked at the Runners log template in Numbers thinking that perhaps it would
have an auto-insert date function, but no luck there. There is a Insert
Date/Time menu item that you could assign a hot key to.

I learned to write formulas in the numbers app using the extensive health
system which describes functions formulas and all the syntax they’re in. I did
have a lot of experience in Excel spreadsheet in and he did carryover. I was
also a programmer many moons ago and I suppose that helps a bit too. Check out
the health system and just weighed in, it’s pretty well organized and you can
find various formula is categorized according to their purposes. Then it’s just
a matter of using your own creativity checking out the documentation on the
functions and experimenting to see if it works. Like I said earlier a lot of

On macOS, I need to keep a log for the next few weeks, updated daily. I'm

the current date whenever I enter values on the row. That is, if the first
column is the date, I want that first cell to be populated with the
current date if I enter any value in any other cell for a row. I hope this

Many formuli work the same in Numbers as they do in Excel. I would try the
Excel instructions and see if they work for Numbers in your use case.

That depends, how good are you at writing spreadsheet formulas? In my
experience you probably be better off just manually entering the date, such as
2/26, for February 26. It is, after all, just one more field to fill-in as
opposed to some fairly tricky formula writing.
