RE: So what do we all think good or bad about the new home button?

2016-09-19 Thread Simon Fogarty
Hi Donna & Scott,

I don't have the 7 but had a look at the device in a store and was rather
surprised at how the new home button works.

I could have sworn that the home button moved it was so weird. But guess it
was due to the haptic feedback.

I wish apple would hurry up with the earpods
I want a set!

You know, I was skeptical, too, but I really like it. In fact, like you,
Scott, I barely notice the difference. The haptic feedback really does make it
feel like you're actually pressing a mechanical button.

Also it’s not just a vibration it’s a small vertical mounted piece that taps
the button.

That probably explains the difference in feel.

Re: So what do we all think good or bad about the new home button?

2016-09-18 Thread Donna Goodin
I agree Scott. I suspect that the negative reaction--sighted and blind folks
alike--is something akin to the concerns about the removal of the phone jack,
i.e. apprehension of the unknown. I imagine that once most people see how
similar the experience with the virtual button is, those concerns will go away.
Cheers,
Donna

It’s sort of striking how real it feels considering that’s a haptic response
and not a real button.

I heard of objections about it on some of the mainstream media but I have to

I was sceptical at first too about the new home button, but I really like it in
the 2 days I've had the phone.

Re: So what do we all think good or bad about the new home button?

2016-09-18 Thread Alex Hall
I have no problem with it at all. After seeing the new trackpads that work the
same way, I knew this button wouldn't be a problem, and I was correct. It is
recessed, so I can feel it, and it simulates the feeling of being pressed so
well that I have to remind myself that it's not actually moving. In fact, when
my sister started using her new 7, she was confused. I'd told her the home
button wouldn't move, but when she tried it, she asked me why hers *was* moving
when I said it wouldn't. That's how real the illusion is for some, and the best
thing to do is not even worry about the button being virtual. You won't notice
it being any different, I don't think.

I love the button. It gives a lot of feedback and does feel a lot like a real

So what do we all think good or bad about the new home button?

2016-09-17 Thread Scott Granados
Wonder what people think about the new home button? I was skeptical. I had a
chance to hold the phone prelaunch but not use it for any length of time. It
was attached to another device so we were testing from the PC and controlling
the device remotely. Now that I’ve had a 24 hour period to use it, I really
dig it. I was afraid because I don’t like the capacitive buttons on Android.
They don’t have any feedback or even physical identifier. It feels
surprisingly real to me. When you press and get that response it feels a lot
like a button. I also like the response is configurable. I know others
disagree though so I’m interested in what others using the 7 think of the touch
sensitive virtual button.

Thanks
Scott
