Verizon getting the iphone

2010-06-30 Thread Donna Goodin
For all those waiting so long for this announcement, I just learned on another
list that VZ has announced it's getting the iphone. Finally No official
link yet, will post when I get it.

Re: Verizon getting the iphone

2010-06-30 Thread Chris Moore
Yeah January 2011 right? So is that a big deal for you guys? is Horizon a
better network? I guess it will ease some of the traffic on ATT. The iPhone
in the UK is available in the UK by 7 providers now (O2, Vodafone, Orange,
T-Mobile, Virgin, Tesco and 3). Guess we are spoilt for choice now, shame the
tariffs are not so good now that the unlimited data is gone.

Re: Verizon getting the iphone

2010-06-30 Thread Esther

Hi Donna and Kimberly,

As far as I know, there still isn't an official announcement. What
people are going by is the Bloomberg report that Verizon Wireless
Said to Start Offering iPhone in January. Everyone declined to be
named, and the Verizon Wireless spokesman, Apple, etc. all declined to
comment.

Cheers,

Esther

It's a shame Sprint isn't in the picture. We have unlimited data, and I have

Well I have been saying for a long time that VZW would eventually get the
iPhone and so far it has not happen. So, I won't say it will not happen, but
let's see if January 2011 is finally the year of the iPhone for VZW. I hope it
happens and that does not mean I'd leave ATT, but both carriers will have to
work to keep or gain customers.

Re: Verizon getting the iphone

2010-06-30 Thread Cody Hurst
I don't think that it'll be an issue which who keeps and who gains. it's pretty
much cut and dry who will get what. AT and T sucks, sucky 3g coverage, and
sucky call quality, and everyone I know has been dreaming vzw will get the
iPhone, so that being said, we all can pretty much assume everyone from AT and
T will be leaving and swarming to Verizon. I know this for a fact. that is of
course if you like shitty 3g coverage and dropped calls. That commercial is
more than deceiving, it's a lie

Re: Verizon getting the iphone

2010-06-30 Thread Buddy Brannan
And, if (I say if, because we've seen this rumor now in one form or anothr for
a couple years) Verizon does get the iPhone, count on their network being over
capacity, just like ATT's. They have better coverage *now*, maybe, they have
better bandwidth, *now*, maybe, but if things had gone differently and Verizon
were the exclusive iPhone carrier back at the beginning, I'd be willing to
wager the results would be the same as they are now, only with a different
carrier name. True that the iPhone spread over several carriers will be better
for everyone and will spread out the data usage somewhat, but don't be
surprised if we start seeing the same complaints about Verizon's network
capacity as we do now about ATT's.

Perhaps. But ATT also has *horrible customer service. And VZ's coverage is
better as well. Also for me there's an added incentive in that my husband is
on VZ, so we'd save some $$ being on the same network.

Oh, no arguments about ATT's customer service. It *is* lousy. Verizon's seems
somewhat less lousy. As for coverage though, Verizon's better in some places,
ATT's better in others. Personally, I wish everyone would be on one mobile
standard, to make roaming easier so coverage isn't such a huge deal.

Re: Verizon getting the iphone

2010-06-30 Thread Scott Howell
Now that is funny, I have great coverage with ATT and even coverage in parts
of the subway system here. Of course I have been places where VZW's coverage
has not been very good at all. So, it all boils down to where the carrier has
focused its efforts in providing coverage. Now let's not forget that perhaps
ATT does not have the same level of coverage, but VZW is very clever that
trying to screw customers into signing contracts without sharing certain
information. They actually tried screwing me when I terminated my service. So,
all carriers have their good and bad points. What I will be more concerned
about is if VZW will limit the data plan or if they will be smart and find a
balance between unlimited and 2Gb.
And for the record, I am not a fan of ATT and in fact, I'm not a fan of any
carrier, I am only a fan of the level of service I get for what I pay.

the iPhone, so that being said, we all can pretty much assume everyone from
AT and T will be leaving and swarming to Verizon. I know this for a fact.
that is of course if you like shitty 3g coverage and dropped calls. That
commercial is more than deceiving, it's a lie

Re: Verizon getting the iphone

2010-06-30 Thread Scott Howell
I have to concur with your comments Buddy. VZW brags now, but let's see what
the iPhone would do to their network. If they are smart, they will have learned
a few lessons, but I wouldn't bet on that either. Like most carriers, they see
dollar signs and do as little as possible to earn as many dollars as possible.
I of course don't fault them since they are in the business to make money.

Re: Verizon getting the iphone

2010-06-30 Thread Scott Howell
Honestly I can say that I have not had any problems with ATT's customer
service. They follow up with surveys and seem interested in trying to improve
where necessary. Then again, I also had no problems with VZW's customer
service, but Sprint? Well now that is an entirely different story and T-Mobile
was not much better. Sometimes I think it is the people you encounter that can
make the difference.

*Snort* Sprint may have among the lowest prices, but they aren't anywhere

for customer service, that honor has consistently gone to T-Mobile. Even if
T-Mobile has rotten coverage in several places. Anyone remember that story
where Sprint basically told a thousand customers to get lost because they
called customer service too many times?

Re: Verizon getting the iphone

2010-06-30 Thread Scott Howell
And that is the hope for 4G or LTE or whatever the hell it is called this week.
LTE/4G or whatever would provide companies like VZW the ability to be more a
global competitor and would essentially provide a standard for most carriers
accept Sprint. Sprint apparently has decided to use a different standard, which
will freeze them out of the ability to share other carrier's towers. And
although I am pulling this from the dark region, I imagine the goal is for cell
carriers to go the way of the copper carriers.

Re: Verizon getting the iphone

2010-06-30 Thread Cody Hurst
Yes I understand, but if I understand correctly, vzw's network as it stands now
is much larger. I can qualify that statement because it took a while where I
used to live in ms where At and T just received 3g and vzw had already had it
On Jun 30, 2010, at 4:53 PM, Scott Howell wrote:

I have to concur with your comments Buddy. VZW brags now, but let's see what
the iPhone would do to their network. If they are smart, they will have
learned a few lessons, but I wouldn't bet on that either. Like most carriers,
they see dollar signs and do as little as possible to earn as many dollars as
possible. I of course don't fault them since they are in the business to make
 money.

maybe, they have better bandwidth, *now*, maybe, but if things had gone
differently and Verizon were the exclusive iPhone carrier back at the
beginning, I'd be willing to wager the results would be the same as they are

the customer service as I've seen it has been alright, but it's usually if you

Even if T-Mobile has rotten coverage in several places. Anyone remember that
story where Sprint basically told a thousand customers to get lost because
they called customer service too many times?

standard, which will freeze them out of the ability to share other carrier's

goal is for cell carriers to go the way of the copper carriers.
