Okay,

Here’s the deal.

I want to completely transfer all of my iTunes library from my Mac

to which I wanted the transfer to happen. The path I specified is
called Data Disk. The actual path I specified was
Dada Disk/External Audio but that didn’t seem to do the trick. So, I
manually made a folder inside the Data Disk/External Audio/Music
folder called iTunes. Now, I retransfered the path to
Data Disk/External Audio/Music/iTunes and thought that did it. But,
when I went to stream content to my third gen Apple TV, all I got was
a notice that said, “no content found in this library”. >From this, I
gather that for some reason, my third gen Apple TV was still looking
at my Mac instead of the external drive.

So, after all that, my questions.

1. What did I do incorrectly?

2. IF the way I did it was not correct, (I have to assume I made a
mistake somewhere.) what should I have done?

Thanks.

Re: issues transfering iTunes Library

2017-02-16 Thread Tim Kilburn
Hi,

the easiest thing to do in my opinion would be to go to your finder, press
cmd-shift-h to open your Home Directory, open the Music folder and navigate to
the iTunes folder. Copy the iTunes folder with cmd-c then navigate to your
external HD, and paste it to there with cmd-v. Depending on the size of your
iTunes Library, this may take a while. Once it has finished, start iTunes
while holding down the Option key. This will force iTunes to ask you to choose
a Library. Follow the prompts to choose another iTunes Library making sure to
choose the iTunes folder on the external HD.

This process will make an exact copy of your Library, playlists, Preferences
and all. If everything looks good, you can then remove the iTunes folder from
the internal HD. The caveat here is that your external HD must be connected at
all times that you wish to use iTunes with your Mac. As long as that is the
case, it will work normally with Apple TV, Home Sharing and all iTunes features.

Later...
