Re: podcast appearance

2018-08-12 Thread Yuma Decaux
Hi pete,

Skyview does this but not constellations in 3D and neither does it work with
voice over.

The app is tentatively called Astreos

I will be putting up a new thread explaining Astreos in a nutshell with a
proper introduction.

Simon,

If you want to test the app, just confirm your email on the contact form. You
will receive an invite to test flight the app.

And no, I don't have malicious code to try to get whatever private info on your
phone. It's been approved on the beta system meaning they took the time to make
sure this type of stuff is not injected in my code base :)

Re: podcast appearance

2018-08-12 Thread Yuma Decaux
Hi Simon,

I think you are adressing this mail to me, Yuma.

The app takes into account every fragment of space ships that has been
monitored by the Horizons system. This means that every manmade satellite is
dynamically positioned with mission critical precision, with the use of the
device's accelerometer, a few algorithms for stablisation as well as the GPS to
further improve accuracy.

Basically, the app project started as a way of connecting via telnet to NASA's
JPL Horizons system. The blog entry for this can be found here:

https://www.oseyeris.com/post/astrogazer-for-the-blind
<https://www.oseyeris.com/post/astrogazer-for-the-blind>

I have coded the entire API to connect to NASA's various systems such as the
above, as well as the sentry system, the NEO (NEar Earth Object) table and
coded the capability to revert back from -2000 years ago to 2000 years in the
Future. The exceptions are for the Sentry, NEO and manmade satellites which can
predict only to about 2 months ahead. I have worked together with Jon Giorgino
from NASA's JPL propulsion labs to get this done on the ap. I quote him in
saying that "this app is not your standard estimation of objects in the sky,
but integrations upon integrations of precision computation made for space
missions".

Secondly, the constellation system is based on the most comprehensive database
called the Vizier which aggregates every other database including the
Hipparcos, Harvard Bright star catalogue and others through a backend system
which updates the local database dynamically.

The blog entry on how the stars were made is below:

https://www.oseyeris.com/post/hunting-for-the-stars
<https://www.oseyeris.com/post/hunting-for-the-stars>

The constellations are actually in full 3D. the only other application which
does that, on the desktop is the space engine. However it's not accessible to
blind people. There are no apps out there on IOS with full 3D constellations,
nebulas and others. I have included the entire star categorisation system,
their magnitudes, luminosities, categories, their particularities called
"peculiarity" and other special features taken from the most up to date
semantic system for star categorisation. I've also added the names of every
available major star in the constellations.

I am still working on exposing all of that information in a format that a blind
person can easily navigate through. But for the sighted or partially sighted,
it's visible on screen.

Finally, I am taking the time to open every single NASA API to the app so that
it becomes a realtime space observatory for those of us who can't see. This
includes toplogical information, both atmospheric, surface, temperature,
spectral analysis etc.

Cheers

2018-08-12 Thread Simon Fogarty
Hi Sandy,

Is this app going to take in to account all the space junk flying around in
space?

Endless satilites and other broken bits of space crap that nasa and other
space invaders have left up there?

What about the teslar that Musk sent up there earlier this year!

How will the app deal with the different constilations in the different
hemispheres such as the southern Cross and pointers that we get and the
northern hemisphere don't

Or the fact that a lot of us live in urban areas where looking at the stars is
pretty much not likely as there are mor street lights than stars in the sky.

Lots of issues to take in to account,
If you could map it including time, geographical location or should that be
the exact spot you stand on when you try looking and taking in the time of day
/ night,
 The time of the year,
Weather conditions,
 Season of the year
Which all comes in to account when trying to look at the stars.
Clarity of the night sky and freshness of air quality.

Good luck I'd love to hear how it works out.

Re: podcast appearance

2018-08-11 Thread Yuma Decaux
Hi,

using tones to point where on the screen is bright and not is not very
efficient for finding objects in the skies.

Here's a quick overview of how it works, I'm just orienting the phone around
when selecting an object, and I get both tactile and audio cues to orient me
towards the area in the sky where the object resides. the same works with every
object in the sky, planets, moons, manmade satellites, comets and asteroids,
near earth objects and all the 89 constellations.

https://www.dropbox.com/s/yj184tgvzr481p8/Input%20Device%20Recording%2020180812%200638.mp3?dl=0

The app is not only useable for blind people like me, but also the sighted. So
if you have some residual sight, you can immediately check out the lines of the
constellations as you point your phone around you.

Hope this describes it a bit, though I will make a more polished video
description in the very near future.

Have a great one

Perhaps you should describe this process a bit more, as folks seem to think
that you are actually observing astronautical events with your eyes, but if the
Voice you are talking about is that noisy thing that makes different tones
based on light levels, than a person with no sight could use it. Though I have
to say living in suburban north america I expect I would be more likely to see
a jet flying over head than a constelation.

I’m completely blind so you don’t need to agree or disagree,. Your setup just
won’t work for me or others like me.

I also doubt you can bring up constellations and be guided on where it is :)

podcast appearance

2018-08-11 Thread Yuma Decaux
Hi Everyone,

Firstly, is anyone interested in a podcast interview about how they see the
ssky as being, if they learn aspects of space, planets and other objects we
can't see as blind people in the sky. I have a podcast series that covers 3D
programming for audio, and related technologies.

I am co-founder of Oseyeris, and have been working on an app so I can
understand where the planets are, how they cycle around me in the real world,
as astronomy and physics are something I am passionate about.

Second, I would like to invite you to test a star gazing app for the blind.

Please follow this link, and put your name on the email list. if already
subscribed, your test flight will be sent very shortly.

I am very interested in hearing your opinions about how stars should be
represented, though I have laid out the initial audio "feel" of space.

Have a great day y'all
