Re: Zoom

2020-09-06 Thread 'Janina Sajka' via MacVisionaries
My problem with Zoom is that it seemingly can't comprehend someone might
want to use Zoom audio only--with no camera.

I'm forever getting a Zoom popup asking me to enable the video camera.
I don't have one, of course, on my Mini.

Best,

Janina

Re: Zoom

2020-09-06 Thread 'Kawal Gucukoglu' via MacVisionaries
I had a good look for that audio thing and couldn’t find it. I don’t like the
way that Zoom has changed on the Mac. It was complicated enough but now you
need to go into a browser which makes things ridiculous.

Accessible count-down app?

Hi all,

I’m looking for an app that will count down the days to an event. There are
lots of them in the app store. Does anyone know of one that is accessible?
TIA,

how to stop this?
Thanks,

Ah, i had the same problem. What you have to do is go into settings
and clear it. I think you go under emergency notifications, and clear
it. Don't feel bad, had the same problem.

Re: Stopping emergency SOS notifications

2020-09-06 Thread 'Donna Goodin' via MacVisionaries
Well, I’m glad I’m not the only one who’s managed to do this. Happily, my
husband was sitting in the same room with me, so no problem there, but it did
freak out my mother and sister-in-law. LOL

By the way in case any of you wonder what happens when you send out an
emergency SOS, all of your emergency contacts are sent a text with your
location they then receive updates on your location every time you go anywhere
until you turn it off, as Jed said, in settings. I guess it’s handy in case
you’re ever kidnapped. lol
Cheers,
Donna

Re: Stopping emergency SOS notifications

2020-09-06 Thread Jed Barton
So i found out the reason why you have to clear this, cause i called
apple accessibility to find out.
The idea is if you get transported to a hospital by ambulance, your
emergency contacts will know where you are if you can't communicate
with them. When i thought about it, i was like wow, brilliant move by
apple.
You just have to remember to clear it.

Re: Stopping emergency SOS notifications

2020-09-06 Thread 'Donna Goodin' via MacVisionaries
Oh! That makes total sense. You’re right, that was very smart thinking on
Apple’s part. It’s kind of funny, I sort of freaked out when I sent out the
SOS, but now I’m sort of glad that I did. It’s nice to know what will happen if
I ever need to do that.

Thanks for all this info.
Cheers,
Donna

Re: Initial with an external hard drive on Catalina

2020-09-06 Thread Jonathan Cohn
OK, does the hard drive have a password? If so there is probably a dialog
asking you to enter the password.
Secdon thing to do is open the "computer" area of finder and see if the disk is
there. command-shift-C while in the finder should bring you there.

Best wishes,

Jonathan Cohn

Measure App on iPhone 8

2020-09-06 Thread Paul Hopewell
Hello,
Is it possible for a blind VoiceOver user to use the Measure App on an iPhone 8
running IOS 13.7 to measure the size of a room and then the size of various
items of furniture? It will hopefully not be a tight fit so high precision is
not necessary.
Many thanks … Paul Hopewell

You could do it in a spreadsheet like Pages.

In A1 enter the fixed date. In B1 enter =TODAY(). In c1 enter a1-b1.

You will probable have to format the cesll to look right but it seems to work.

I’ve already been doing it manually on my Vario ultra, I just thought it would
be cool to have an app on my phone that would do it. There are lots of them out
there, I just don’t want to buy one not knowing whether it’s accessible.

Re: Stopping emergency SOS notifications

2020-09-06 Thread 'Kawal Gucukoglu' via MacVisionaries
How do you clear the SOS? My brother is my only emergency contact but he has
an android. Would that affect anything? I am careful not to press the SOS
feature. However, before I Mae my Brother my SOS contact, I woke up one day
and pressed the SOS feature and the police answered as I hit it on my watch by
accident as my finger slipped. So I changed the contact sos to my brother’s
number and since then I have not slipped my finger.

Re: Stopping emergency SOS notifications

2020-09-06 Thread Jed Barton
Ya know when it happened to me, i forgot what happened, but for some
reason voiceover went totally stupid, and all of a sudden i heard the
phone ringing in my ear, and i knew what had happened, it was calling
911.
Now i actually work in public safety so we get these calls all the
time. The came on the phone and i said, sorry guys, accidental, and
they were very appreciative that i stayed on the phone.
Then my mom who was downstairs, called me and said you OK? I told her
everything was fine, and it was accidental. I'm glad it atleast
works.

Re: Stopping emergency SOS notifications

2020-09-06 Thread 'Donna Goodin' via MacVisionaries
You go into settings, then emergency SOS. If you’ve activated notifications,
you’ll see something when you get in there that says something like terminate
notifications or stop alerting or something like that I forget exactly what the
wording is. Tap that and you’re good to go.

How to edit a meeting with multiple audio streams on separate files.

2020-09-06 Thread Nektarios Mallas
Hello list.
I have a project and I need some help.
I need to do audio editing for a podcast that will be conducted via Skype or
other conferencing software.
However, I will be able to receive separate local recorded files from its
person.
How do you suggest combining those files and perform editing?
I use amadeus pro and I have logic pro x available here.
Should I import each audio file on a separate track and then copy and paste to
austereo track?
Any ideas for a work flow?
Thank you very much.

Nektarios.

no app I try seems to record. Do I have to have an external microphone instead?

Re: Does anyone use the Dropbox desktop app on BAC? Having problems.

2020-09-06 Thread Kevin Gibbs
I eventually did get it to work. I actually had it working and then
accidentally moved my DB folder and had to relink my computer to my DB account.
 All’s well now.

Thanks,
Kevin

Using Audio Highjack

2020-09-06 Thread Holly Jensen
Hello,

I have a question for people who use Audio Highjack to record things like
Skype. I am recording audio for a podcast, but the default template for
recoding the VOIP apps makes it so the audio is split or something. My sound
comes out of the left channel, and the guest’s sound comes out of the right
channel, which sounds kind of weird. I don’t know what setting to change so
that both of us are coming out of both speakers. I tried setting it as mono,
but then when I record, I hear an echo of myself in my head. Which audio blocks
and settings should I change? Any help would be appreciated.

Holly
