Of the current
list, I propose to keep Andre Klapper and Harald Schmitt because they
continue to be involved. If anyone has been involved and I missed it,
please speak up. I'm sorry and you will be kept as well.

For new supertesters, we should have people who have a demonstrated
interest in maemo and ability to test maemo packages. It is vital that
supertesters are trusted members of the community. A single supertester
will be able to promote someone else's (not their own) package. Please
feel free to suggest different or more objective criteria for
supertesters.

So far the following have been nominated:

Pali
freemangordon
nicolai
merlin19xx
MAG

Rob

(This has also been posted on the forum.)

We (Maemo Community) really need people with ability to promote packages which
do not maintain (e.g not on maintainer list). See how log took to promote
package rootsh, version 1.8 to Extras (more than year?). Old version in Extras
had critical bug which cause not possible to uninstall package. And maintainer
abandoned Maemo community, so nobody had permission for it!

I would like to see permission for promoting packages which I update and not
wait while old maintainer give me needed permisstion!

Re: TSG for CSSU?

2012-02-16 Thread Andrew Flegg

I propose a TSG (Technical Steering Group) for CSSU [...]. I have
sometimes seen the project get delayed because MohammedAG is temporarily
unavailable, and that there is uncertainty or lack of input over how some
decisions get made, etc.

What did MohammadAG say to this proposal? He was the only person who
stepped up to do this, and has since been joined by merlin1991 et al. The
Community Council are a facilitating body, rather than an owning body, so
it's in your remit to assist MAG in this, if he's asked for help. But I
don't think you have the power for a hostile takeover, which is why I'm
asking. Of course, the CSSU could always be forked - but that's dependent
on having someone to do the work.

It's doers that Maemo, and the CSSU is missing, not people to sit by the
sidelines and direct. For example, the stable branch came out because
someone was willing to put in the work to define how it should be created,
how it should be managed and then to do that. Many people *said* there
should be a stable Maemo 5 CSSU, but if someone isn't willing to help with
the work, so what?

What would the CSSU TSG do? Can you give concrete examples? As a
*technical* steering, how would candidates' eligibility be established so
that a sensible and consistent set of architectural decisions would be made?

Thanks in advance,

Andrew

This is a good point. It needs to be easier to adopt unmaintained
packages.

Agreed, but this is a case of designing and proposing a process. It has
nothing to do with supertesters, AFAICT.

Cheers,

[ANN] gst-dsp 0.10.2 released

2012-02-16 Thread Felipe Contreras
Hi,

This is basically a brown-paper-bag release since the previous one is
totally broken (if you use DSP_API=2, which you should).

Also, a few fixes from the Maemo 6 branch, and some fixes for old
versions of the JPEG encoder (which is the only one that works from
the public release), and a fix for a regression in video call.

You can download the tarball from the usual place:
http://code.google.com/p/gst-dsp/downloads/list

Cheers.

Felipe Contreras (6):
 dmm_buffer: fix for DSP_API=2
 util: fix map_buffer() warning message
base: fix access to correct dmm_buffer data
 ipp: fix alignment of strings
 jpeg: fixes for old socket-node
 README: add compatibility notes
