Well, my wife just wrote me a message that N900 is at home already. So
the path Helsinki-Rotterdam took less than a day. Thank you, Nokia!

 It handles also audio policies and tries to make sure that you get

Just to know.
I see now this `ohmd` process in my 41-10. I did not get it, was this
daemon improved or made worse in new firmware released lately?

Diablo builder broken?

Hi,

Yesterday I uploaded new version of load-applet, but it seems builder
is broken. I see nothing

Re: pygtk in maemo?

2008-12-15 Thread Eugene Antimirov
 I'm trying to make whiteboard for maemo using pygtk.
 I wrote down the code in my laptop and it works well, but not in my Nokia
 N810.

 Error says 'gtk.gdk.Color' object has no attribute 'to_string'. However, as
 you may see on pygtk docs, gtk.gdk.Color does have to_string method for
 string representation.
 (again, it works well in laptop without any error)

 What is the problem with that? Is there any difference between pygtk for PC
 and for maemo? And, how can I solve this problem?

Hi,

I had the same problem not so long ago -
http://antimirov.blogspot.com/2008/05/labyrinth-bugfix-release.html
I described a workaround function there:
-
def color_to_string(color):
 return #00%02x00%02x00%02x % (color.red, color.green, color.blue)
-

Diablo autobuilder failed - python is not available

2008-09-12 Thread Eugene Antimirov
Hi all!

Yesterday I tried to upload my application to Diablo Extras.
According to wiki page I I tried to dput it to builder queue:

[diablo-extras-builder]
login = antimirov
fqdn = garage
method = scp
hash = md5
allow_unsigned_uploads = 0
incoming = /var/www/extras-devel/incoming-builder/diablo

But I got an email with FAILED in it and this link which shows that
there was an error:

https://garage.maemo.org/builder/diablo/labyrinth_0.5.0-maemo.r6/i386.build.log.FAILED.txt
This is the most interesting stuff from it:
===
checking for xgettext... /scratchbox/tools/bin/xgettext
checking for a Python interpreter with version = 2.4... none
configure: error: no suitable Python interpreter found
make: *** [config.status] Error 1
===

So it means that autobuilder just has no python installed. Please advise.

 This kind of error is usually because the requisite package is not in
 your source bundle's Build-Depends line. You can use the
 'dpkg-depcheck' tool to auto-detect what it should be. More details
 here:

http://wiki.maemo.org/Uploading_to_extras#Preparing_a_source_package

 Hope that helps,

 Andrew

Seems you are right - during porting to maemo I removed all the Build-Depends
contents and forgot about it. Thought it was temporarily :)

I'll try to fix it right now. Thank you!

Status bar plugin problems

2008-09-04 Thread Eugene Antimirov
Hi all!

I'm looking for the right way to develop a status bar plugin.

At the moment there is a problem here. As I've found from wiki at maemo.org
to kill running SB plugin I have to remove this file:

/usr/share/applications/hildon-status-bar/applet.desktop

so then I replace old libapplet.so file with a new one, copy .desktop file to
/usr/share/applications/hildon-status-bar. It starts ok, but the
problem I'm stuck
with is that old binary seems to be loaded instead of new one. It's
like the running
process is still having old inode of the file. Actually if I try not
to remove .so file and
then copy a new one but run cat newapplet.so
/usr/lib.../libapplet.so the whole
thing crashes with these messages:

qemu: uncaught target signal 11 (Segmentation fault) - exiting
maemo-launcher: child (pid=21568) terminated due to signal=11
matchbox-wm: X error warning (0xc000fa): BadWindow (invalid Window
parameter) (opcode: 12)
matchbox-wm: X error warning (0xc000fa): BadWindow (invalid Window
parameter) (opcode: 12)
matchbox-wm: X error warning (0xc000fa): BadWindow (invalid Window
parameter) (opcode: 25)
maemo-launcher: no child 21606 found in the kindergarten.
maemo-launcher: child (pid=21606) terminated due to exit()=0

Is there any good example of the plugin restart should be done?

Re: Power management is going to drive me mad!

You may try adding fake connection. I used this to emulate connection
for such kind of applications while using usb_ether connection with my n800

Here is the command:
$ gconftool -s -t string /system/osso/connectivity/IAP/DEFAULT/type DUMMY

 Hi maemo-developers,

 Is it possible on the N800 to programatically shut down the wifi
 interface and bring it back up?

 I have an application that very occasionally needs network
 connectivity. If I leave my device connected to wifi, the battery dies
 too quickly. I would like to have the software turn on the wifi
 interface, do its thing, and then turn the interface off to conserve
 energy. I've considered other solutions, but I think this is the
 simplest answer.

 I thought at first that libconic could do this, but it appears not (at
 least not in Python: see the comment here:
 https://garage.maemo.org/svn/pymaemo/packages/python-conic/branches/chinook/tests/test_disconnect.py).
 Is it possible? I saw a veiled reference to sending d-bus messages
 (http://maemo.org/pipermail/maemo-developers/2007-April/009462.html),
 but it wasn't specific enough to turn into code.

 I tried running /etc/init.d/wlancond stop, but that doesn't seem to
 decrease power consumption.

 Is there a magical dbus message I can send? If I could trick it into
 entering/exiting flight mode, that would work too. I've been
 experimenting for hours with no luck.

 Thanks for your help,
 George

Re: Having trouble installing the scratchbox development environment.

2008-06-06 Thread Eugene Antimirov
Oops, I thought your link led to http://maemovmware.garage.maemo.org/ - it's
a preconfigured VMWare image that is ready to be used out of the box.
Sorry for confusing.

  Been there, done that, have a working scratchbox.

  (Actually, two, because http://maemo-sdk.garage.maemo.org/install.html
  also worked for me, and seems a bit simpler to set up. It's not the
  official way though, and it's an early alpha version, so beware.)

 I believe using vmware image should be an official way for beginners -
 it's much, MUCH easier to install and use and does not need your
 system to be Ubuntu or any other debian - I use it on my wife's laptop
 with WinXP at home.

Re: console curses application

2008-06-02 Thread Eugene Antimirov
 Hi,
  It's my first experience in development on maemo platform. I'm developing ca
 console application.
  I have downloaded virtual machine and have tried to run some sample
 applicatons.
  But all examples I have seen have GUI interface, so I have the several
 questions:

  1. How can I run a console apptiocation on scratchbox?
  If i run sample GUI appplictions (./example1.py) I can found running
 aaplication on the Xephyr window.
  But if I run hello-world console application I don't see any effect.

So it just hangs up or prints some error?

  2. Is there curses library on maemo platform? I have found the 'top' program
 on N810,
 so I suppose the answer is 'yes'. But when I try to include the header
 (#include curses.h)
 scratchbox cannot find this header. Where can I find a simple example of
 curses application?

 Something like this:

 #include unistd.h
 #include stdlib.h
 #include curses.h

 int main() {
initscr();
move(5, 15);
printw(?%s?, ?Hello World?);
refresh();
sleep(2);
endwin();
exit(EXIT_SUCCESS);
 }

Scratchbox actually has curses.h, I guess you missed to add
-lncurses to your linker parameters line:

$ cc curses.c -o curses -lncurses

   3. Can I create console application on python with curses library? I need
 somthing like:

   import curses
   #

From
http://pymaemo.garage.maemo.org/documentation/pymaemo_tutorial/python_maemo_howto.html
Python limitations in maemo
...
The following modules are deprecated:

...curses...

I guess you should compile this module for you and provide as
additional third-party library. Or submit a request to pymaemo's
maintainers ;)
